The Basics

At the center of the square, a soaring Egyptian obelisk and two marble fountains—one by Carlo Maderno dating from 1613 and the second designed by Bernini to match in 1675—break up the sweeping cobblestone space. Within the colonnade, formed by massive Doric columns and topped by 140 statues of the saints, lies the security check for entry to St. Peter's and, on the other side, the Vatican post office. The square is the site of large public Masses on the main Catholic holidays and for papal audiences, when it is packed with pilgrims from all over Italy and the world.

St. Peter's Square is best visited with a tour guide as part of a small-group tour that touches on all the Vatican highlights, including the Vatican Museums and Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's Basilica, the Vatican Gardens, and the Vatican Grottoes containing the tombs of former popes. The Vatican is a vast repository of art and history; savor it as part of a private tour with skip-the-line tickets to avoid wasting time in the Vatican's notoriously long queues.

The Original Entire Vatican Tour & St. Peter's Dome Climb
Massimo our tour guide made the tour interesting and his knowledge and passion for Rome and its history shone through. He ensured the safety and comfort of the group throughout the tour. Humourous and patient. A great tour guide, the tour itself was excellent but good footwear and reasonable fitness is needed as the walk to the top of the dome is hard but well worth the breathless moments to the top.

Scavi Tour to the Tomb of St. Peter's & Skip Line Guided Tour of the Basilica
We loved having Agnes as our Basilica tour guide! She was so knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. Have been in the Basilica before, but learned a great deal from her. She is an awesome representative of your company. The Tombs Tour guide was also wonderful. The Tombs tour was very interesting. Would highly recommend this tour.

Skip-the-Line Tour of the Vatican,Sistine Chapel & St. Peter's | Group of 12 ppl
Our guide, Manuela, was very knowledgeable and helpful. She took us through St Peters Basilica, the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel. The Basilica was astonishing, and the information she provided about the images in the sistine chapel was very helpful. We didn't see all of the Vatican Museum but we felt like we saw the most interesting parts. If you don't go out the exit at the end of the tour you can loop back through again if you choose to.

Meet Pope Francis at St Peter square Vatican City
I had bought tickets to go the Pope Audiences, but I could not go on Wednesday, which is the only day to go to the audience. So, they were very nice and diligent to change my ticket to go to the Hop On, Hop off (Big Bus) instead. It was nice to see the main places in Rome, in 1 hour and then decide where to stop and see. For that reason, I totally recommend that. Thank you for the great service!!

Vatican, Sistine & St. Peter's Basilica Skip The Line & Small Group
Roberto was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed the tour. Was not happy that we couldn't get in St. Peters Basilica without waiting in a long line. We paid for a skip the line tour.

It was good to revisit the Vatican and Sistine Chapel again. We had friends and family with us so that made the experience very valuable as some had not been to these historical places.
