Eternal Flame and Tree of Life As you enter Chapel of Man, a gentle flame springs from the center of a solid red circle. Meant to evoke peace and hope, the Eternal Flame is dedicated to those who lost their lives defending human rights. In the courtyard, look for the Tree of Life where Guayasamín and his dear friend, Ecuadorian poet Jorge Enrique Adum, are buried side-by-side under a tree the artist planted himself.
