Baiguate Waterfall (Salto de Baiguate) Tours

Baiguate Waterfall (Salto de Baiguate)
In the Jarabacoa interior, surrounded by lush trees and natural beauty, is Baiguate Waterfall (Salto de Baiguate), one of three much-visited falls that play a large role in the Dominican Republic’s ecotourism. The cascade is set in a picturesque canyon popular with hikers, rafters, and adventurous souls who rappel down the waterfall.

The Basics
The area around Baiguate Waterfall is a hub of outdoor adventure, where travelers come to take advantage of white-water rafting tours, hiking adventures, horseback riding, tours of the falls, and more. Easily reached via a canyon trail, suspension bridges, and a set of wooden steps, Baiguate cascades into a deep, cold pool of jade-colored water.
Tours to Baiguate typically include stops at the area’s other two cascades, Jimenoa Falls 1 and Jimenoa Falls 2. The three are close to each other, can be visited in a single day, and are a popular attraction in the Cordillera Central. Some canyon tours include a rappel down the Baiguate.

Things to Know Before You Go
  • Baiguate Waterfall is a must for first-time visitors to the Jarabacoa area.
  • Check weather conditions before heading out to the falls, and always wear comfortable shoes with good grip.
  • The waterfall can be ascended via a ladder and steps; however, extreme caution should be taken.
  • Baiguate is not accessible to wheelchair users.

How to Get There
Baiguate Waterfall is located about a 10-minute drive from the mountain resort town of Jarabacoa. There is a parking area near the falls, which you can reach via a short hike down an adjoining path.

When to Get There

Beat the crowds by visiting earlier in the day. Weekends tend to be busier with travelers and locals alike. Across the Dominican Republic, from June to November you can expect stormier weather and cooler water temperatures, with rain typically peaking in October.
