Welcome to Port Douglas
With easy access to the Great Barrier Reef, Cape Tribulation, and the Daintree Rainforest, the little resort town of Port Douglas in Queensland is an Aussie triple threat. Snorkel or dive your way through the world’s most impressive reef; follow an indigenous guide through the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the ancient Daintree Rainforest; and saddle up to explore lush Cape Tribulation on horseback—then, experience it all again from a different point of view. Trade in your snorkel and opt for kayaking, surfing, or even windsurfing off the coast of Port Douglas; sail to the Low Isles at sunset; or helicopter high above them for a new take on the reef (and an awesome photo op). You can even hop on a train to travel through Kuranda rainforest or learn about indigenous culture at Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park. While tours offer round-trip transportation to the outdoor attractions, Port Douglas’ Four Mile Beach and shop-worthy Macrossan Street are popular pastimes if you’re looking to spend a day close to home base. Foodies will enjoy combining day trips with tastings at boutique wineries, coffee plantations, and artisan cheese and chocolate shops, while nature-lovers can opt for dinner in the forest or visit an eco-park and commune with kangaroos, koalas, and wallabies.
