Private Walking Highlights Tour of Philadelphia

Private Walking Highlights Tour of Philadelphia

Because Philadelphia is one of America's oldest cities, the historic city preceded cars by several centuries - making it an ideal city to see by foot. Originally founded as a haven for religious freedom by William Penn, Pennsylvania was colonised by French Huguenots, Mennonites, and most famously in the state - Quakers and Amish. The capital city was formed in 1682 and has served as the seat of government ever since. Throughout the centuries, Philadelphia has gone through revivals and slumps - prosperous then seasons of economic free fall. To see the remnants of these boom-and-busts of the city, nothing is better than a privately guided walk of it. On your tour, you will not only check off the highlights of the historic district, but also to fall in love with the city's unique combination of grit and charm. Please note: this tour still runs in winter, though it will cancel for fresh snow. Year round, we recommend great walking shoes, layers, and water.

Half Day Highlights Tour in a Private Vehicle

Half Day Highlights Tour in a Private Vehicle

Your guide will take you on a poignant journey around the historic sites of the American Revolution where the seeds of independence were taking root long before a musket shot was fired. As you walk around Benjamin Franklin and Betsy Ross’s homes, along with the homes of numerous other founders, your guide will colour in the missing details of life in Philadelphia during the period: about the political climate of the time, about the tension and excitement around the city. Continue onto JFK Plaza where you can see one of the city’s most ‘instagrammable’ and recognisable sculptures: the LOVE statue. Then drive up the wide lanes of Benjamin Franklin Parkway, a street whose numerous sites could fill up a day on its own. See Rodin’s ‘The Thinker’ and numerous other public sculptures outside the Rodin Museum, before descending the 72 steps to the top of the ‘Rocky Stairs’. From the summit, enjoy sweeping vistas across Eakins Oval, Philadelphia City Hall, and Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

Experience historic sites while traveling the pathways of the Underground Railroad in Lancaster County across river valleys, farmland, cities and small towns. Located just north of the famed Mason-Dixon Line, Lancaster County was a magnet for freedom seekers due to its network of religiously-inspired Abolitionists, free African Americans and white sympathizers, including civil rights pioneer, US Congressman Thaddeus Stevens (1792-1868). Be inspired by a professional historian and storyteller who brings alive this little-known yet significant history from the years following the American Revolution to the outbreak of the Civil War. Gain new perspectives on social issues in America today.

From History to Happy Hour Philadelphia Walking Tour
"My boyfriend and I took this tour because we wanted to see the historical aspects and the happy hour sounded like a fun addition. Both proved to be true. The historical tour was really interesting and took us around the old City and pointed out buildings we otherwise would have been unaware of, or had no idea of the significance. My only comment would be that you do not go into see the liberty Bell on this tour - from the description I had the impression that you did. We had extra time before the tour and could have gone into see it but didn't because we thought the tour went there. You don't have time after the tour that day to do so. So, just make sure you've allotted time for yourself to do it before or after! The happy portion was fun. He knew a lot about beer, took us to three good bars. There were three drinks included instead of the 4 as noted. Good time overall!"..."
