The Basics

A plantation visit is a must when in New Orleans and Oak Alley Plantation is one of the more popular options thanks to its exceptional exhibitions regarding slavery and the Civil War, Sugarcane Theater performances, and exceptional Greek Revival architecture.

See the Big House and grounds on the banks of the Mississippi River on a guided tour, many of which include round-trip transportation from New Orleans’ French Quarter. For a full-day trip from the Big Easy, combine a tour of Oak Alley with a Cajun swamp tour or a trip to some of the other surrounding plantations, including Laura Plantation and San Francisco Plantation.

Great Day
Our tour guide, Dionne, was wonderful and taught us so much about the history of New Orleans and Louisiana. She’s a genealogist who dropped knowledge that isn’t taught to us in history class. Everything was very well organized and it was a great day. Highly recommend!

Oak Alley Plantation and Small Airboat Tour from New Orleans
Oak Alley Plantation was absolutely beautiful, on-site restaurant was great, fast and efficient. Enjoyed hearing the history of the home and about some of the people who have lived there. Swamp boat tour was good overall, though did have some safety concerns during the tour. Lastly, our driver Barbara was outstanding. She was very personable and provided a tour guide feel during out and back ride, as a local to the area she is a tremendous asset and promoter of all things Southeast Louisiana.

Full Day Oak Alley Plantation and Swamp Boat Tour from New Orleans
The tour is nice and relaxed. The Oak Alley plantation visit is nice, it would be better to have a little more time off at the end and arrive a little later to New Orleans, in order to enjoy lunch, the gardens and other exhibits. The swamp boat tour is done in a larger vessel than I expected (not an air boat), but it's also nice!

Swamp Boat Ride and Oak Alley Plantation Tour from New Orleans
The tour guide of the swamp ride. Captain Dan, was able to de-escalate my anxiety and the anxiety of many of the tourists. Prior to boarding the rain was very hard. He informed us of all safety measures and I thoroughly enjoyed the educational, interactive, tour provided and no longer focused on the weather. He didn't just talk about the gators. We learned about raccoons, crawfish, grasshoppers, turtles, and more!

Oak Alley Plantation Tour
Oak Alley Plantation was a great half day trip outside NOLA. It's an incredible yet sobering experience to see/hear about its history. House tour was interesting. The nature and scenery is breathtaking. Great trip for everyone to learn and experience. The shuttle ride is about 1.5hrs from and back to the French Quarter. Comfortable ride through the countryside of Louisiana.

Wonderful day! Both tours were great, and a nice complement to each other. Our driver was a gem and shared her personal Katrina story with us. Overall just a unique, one of a kind excursion. My family and I loved it!!!

Oak Alley and Laura Plantation Tour with Transportation from New Orleans
The Laura plantation guide was excellent añd personable unlike the Oak Alley presenter. The Oak Alley tour was poorly planned and executed. Not enough time at Oak Alley for tour II n your own.
