Hauz Khas Village

Hauz Khas Village, New Delhi

The Basics

One of the trendiest places to hang out in South Delhi, Hauz Khas Village is an ever-evolving neighborhood. Once a sleepy village, this area became a hot spot for fashion designers before a smattering of hip restaurants and bars moved in, bringing a younger crowd with them. Today, Hauz Khas Village is one of the hippest spots in town and a popular stop on Delhi shopping, food, and sightseeing tours.

How to Get There

Hauz Khas Village sits at the end of a long road that extends from Aurobindo Marg in South Delhi. The nearest metro stations are Green Park, about 10 to 15 minutes on foot from the village, or Hauz Khas, which is a bit farther. HKV can also be accessed by car, but only up to the parking lot at the edge of the village; the rest of the area is pedestrian-only.

When to Get There

Most of the shops here open at about 11am and stay open until 7 or 8 every day. Restaurants tend to open a little later, but many stay open well into the night, when they transform into de facto nightclubs or live music venues. The area can get crowded with revelers on Friday and Saturday night.

Deer Park

For many visitors, especially those not fond of shopping, the real highlight of Hauz Khas Village is the adjoining Deer Park, where you’ll find a large caged-in deer sanctuary area, a huge pond, ample walking/jogging trails, and a smattering of crumbling tombs and structures dating back to the Lodi Dynasty. A popular drum circle is held in the park on a regular basis, usually on Saturday or Sunday afternoon.
