De la Gauchetiere Street, Montreal, Canada

The Basics

Chinatown is situated in downtown Montreal, its boundaries marked by four traditional Chinese gateways. Explore the neighborhood on foot, either independently or as part of a guided walking tour of Ville-Marie (the wider downtown area). Chinatown is also seen on some bike tours of Montreal and on food tours of the city. Hop-on hop-off bus tours stop at the neighborhood as part of their city route.

Exceptional experience
Our tour guide David was amazing, very knowledgeable, friendly and very entertaining. He showed us great spots and made everything interesting. We highly recommend this place, would do it all over again. David even got us a treat on the way, we are very thankful for the memorable experience.

Mourir was an amazing ambassador for Montreal. He is passionate and has lots of interesting facts to share. We did this tour on a first day here. Would absolutely recommend doing this tour first to get a good idea of where to go next/later. So appreciated him kindly squeezing us into the tour. Thank you Mounir.

We did both the morning and afternoon city tour. Was an excellent overview of the city. The tour was informative. The driving/walking sections and breaks were nicely spaced. The car was comfortable and water was offered. Had an enjoyable day.

Very knowledgeable guide. Passionate about sharing cultural insights. Moderate walking. Should indicate the vehicle for tour. Was expecting a small bus and was riding in a SUV with 4 other people.

We thoroughly enjoyed our day with Mounir. We are both familiar with Montreal but we saw and learned things we never knew. Mounir is a great tour guide, knowledgeable and personable. Thanks for a great day!

Either pay your drivers and guide appropriately or they should accept what’s given to them

I book d the 11am tour on Tuesday 26.10.21 It was a rainy day. We were picked up from the hotel taken to the stop and transferred to a big bus. The tour was fine. At the end every one was getting down so we also did. At this stage the lady guide was only interested in the tip for her and the driver. Everyone gave according. We were told to get back on the bus to be dropped at the hotel and then dropped at a street saying you hotel is a stone throw away. Not being familiar with surrounding we got down and realised we were nearly 8 blocks away. My friend a difficulty in walking because of back ache. It seemed as though we were punished because not enough tip. What a shame I nice tour has left us with a sour taste. I think the authorities need to look into this issue ASAP

Wow, what a day!! The weather was very challenging and that made this tour even better. It snowed a lot all day and was the storm of the year but that didn't stop our guide and driver!! Loved it! Very informative without being boring. The interaction between guide and driver made it fun too. Only wish we had more time at the food and basilica stop. You couldn't do both so I missed out on a bagel.

The biggest highlight of a 48 hour trip was the bus tour; especially the absolutely hilariously clever presentation of the Tour Guide (Mr. Swan). Fascinating and well paced; lots of great info! Well worth the dough!

Good tour, humorous tour guide. That is, until the bus driver slammed on his brakes, and the tour guide went flying and fell down the bus steps with a gash on his head. Good replacement too.

Chinese Celebrations in Montreal

Despite the movement of many Chinese residents to suburbs such as Brossard, Chinatown remains a hub for Chinese celebrations. The biggest celebration staged here is Chinese New Year, held in January or February. During the annual Mid-Autumn Festival, Chinatown bakeries sell traditional mooncakes, while in summer, Montreal’s Chinatown hosts a series of sidewalk sales.
