Melbourne Star Observation Wheel
See Melbourne from a different angle on the Melbourne Star Observation Wheel, the only attraction of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. Towering 400 feet (120 meters) above the Docklands, the wheel offers passengers 360-degree views over Melbourne, and is one of the most popular activities in the city.

The Basics
The Melbourne Star Observation Wheel features 21 air-conditioned capsules with floor-to-ceiling glass windows; each car seats 20 passengers. Onboard audio commentary provides insight into the history and significance of the city and various sights. Tickets and experiences range from a single 30-minute rotation to double daytime and nighttime rides. Extras like sparkling wine, sangria, storytelling, or even yoga flights are available.

Reach the wheel on a hop-on hop-off bus tour that explores other city attractions at your leisure. For the best value, purchase a multi-city, multi-attraction pass that includes admission to more than 100 attractions across Australia.

Things to Know Before You Go
  • The Melbourne Star is a must for families, couples, and first-time visitors to Melbourne.
  • Don’t forget to bring your camera to capture stunning city views.
  • Large bags, luggage, and strollers are not permitted inside the cabins.
  • Only food and drink purchased on-site are permitted.
  • The Melbourne Star is wheelchair accessible.

How to Get There
The Melbourne Star is located along the waterfront of the Docklands, which is part of the city’s Free Tram Zone. Take the City Circle Tram, Tram 70, or Tram 86 to the District Docklands (Stop D1). You can also take the train to Southern Cross Station, walk to Harbor Esplanade, and then follow the Promenade to the District Docklands. Drivers have access directly from Footscray Road.

When to Get There
The Melbourne Star is open year-round, with limited hours on Christmas Day and ANZAC Day, and extended hours from September to April. Try to time your visit for a clear day,  or visit at night, when both the city and the wheel are lit up with dazzling lights.

Views from the Top
The Melbourne Star offers visibility of up to 25 miles (40 kilometers) on a clear day. You’ll have views of the Docklands area, Melbourne’s Central Business District, Port Phillip Bay, and as far away as the Dandenongs, Yo Yangs, Mt. Macedon, Arthur’s Seat, and the Mornington Peninsula.
