Mazatlan Lighthouse (El Faro) Tours and Activities
1 Review

The lighthouse of port city Mazatlan–also known as El Faro– has been shining since 1879, guiding ships coming up the Sea of Cortez. It can be seen 30 nautical miles away. For tourists, the main reason to come here is to see the divers. From a high platform, young men sometimes make daring high dives for assembled crowds for tips.
You can hike up to the lighthouse itself though to take in the view of the port and entering ships—mostly shrimp boats, plus an occasional cruise ship. Because it sits on a high hill, it’s reportedly the highest lighthouse in the Americas, as 523 feet above the high tide line.

Mazatlan Lighthouse

What we know today as the Mazatlan Lighthouse, one of the highest natural lighthouses in the world, is settled in what once was an island.
It was in the year of 1828 when the Island of Crestón began to be used for maritime signaling the port of Mazatlán and until 1930 when the necessary work was done to unite this body of land separated from the port by the breakwater as we know it today.
With a length of 641 meters, 321 meters wide and an altitude of 157 meters, the Mazatlan Lighthouse offers the ideal place to enjoy a 360 degree view of the bay landscapes.
The perfect place to take photos of the nearby islands and the city!
