The Basics

A popular day trip from nearby Marrakech, the three-tiered Ouzoud Falls provide a magnificent backdrop for hiking or picnicking, as they are surrounded by lush greenery and trees teeming with macaque monkeys. Clamber down the stone steps into the gorge and you can swim beneath the falls, take a raft ride across the river, and explore the natural caves carved into the cliffside. Most full-day tours from Marrakech include stops along the way to admire the mountain scenery and many include lunch at a traditional Berber restaurant.

Ouzoud Falls Day Trip from Marrakech
I wasn't sure what to expect since the tour was so inexpensive. I thought maybe it would only be a driver. Instead, it was a great bargain with transportation and a guide the entire time. There was time to swim, take a boat ride at the falls, have lunch with a great view of the falls, and see the apes. I did a little bird watching as well. It was a well organized and fun tour.

Full-Day Guided Tour to Ouzoud Waterfalls with Boat Ride
Pros : Great spot ! Our great guide Abdelouahed made sure we had the best experience and gave us lots of information about a little bit of everything. He was both sweet and funny. The food there was tastier than in Marrakech. I definitely recommend. Cons: little details : the pick-up was scheduled at 8AM and we waited for the van to fill and left after 9AM. Air con didn't work so well despite that it was a pretty hot day (45°C). Aside from that, thumb up.

Ouzoud Falls Day Trip from Marrakech
The perfect day trip from Marrakech! Guide and driver were both lovely and we had a great swim and meal with the perfect amount of activity to walk it off. For planning, set menus are 120 dirham each — so tourist prices but the tagine was really very good and the views can’t be beat!

Day Trip to Ouzoud WatterFalls from Marrakech: Shared
Our guide (at the Falls) made sure to walk in a comfortable pace for all levels of fitness. He was polite and took very good care of us. The meal was excellent and I felt like I had seen a lot of the beauty and exotic flavor at the falls. Lovely place!

Good value trip worth the journey

Ouzoud Falls Day Trip from Marrakech
Great value for money. Picked up punctually in a clean comfy air con small van. Journey was not interesting. The driver was only negative part of the trip. He spent three hours on his phone during the journey, no engagement with clients. When he made a comfort stop he was not clear with timings and he disappeared he didn’t offer to help people order things, and staff didn’t speak English. When we arrived at the falls we were split into 2 groups, English or french guide. The English guide, according to the guests was much better and more enthusiastic than the french one. thanks so much to English guide Ibrahim he was very informative and helpful. This is not a trip for anyone with mobility issues or not fit. Lots of walking/hiking on uneven ground. You see a Berber house and some monkeys. The falls are amazing. The Biat trip for 20mad is well worth it. You can get off boat and swim. The meal is not nice and expensive but you don’t have to have it. You can be free for an hour to shop or swim again. It is a long way to go but I feel it’s definitely worth it. We were lucky as due to corona it was not too busy.

Good trip if you're staying in Morocco for a longer holiday

Full-Day Guided Tour to Ouzoud Waterfalls with Boat Ride
Me and my husband enjoyed the trip as we were staying in Marrakesh for a bit longer and we needed a short escape from this crazy city. It takes like 3 hours to get there, then 3 hours to spend around the waterfalls and another 3 hours to come back. There are some cute monkeys around the waterfalls to look forward to.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • There is no entrance fee to visit the Ouzoud Falls.

  • Bring your swimsuit, a towel, and a change of clothes if you plan on swimming or taking a boat trip.

  • Facilities at Ouzoud Falls include restrooms, a gift shop, and a number of cafes.

  • The falls are partially wheelchair accessible—it’s possible to view the falls from the top and follow some of the walkways, but the descent down to the swimming area is via steps.

How to Get There

Ouzoud Waterfalls are located in the High Atlas Mountains, around 100 miles (160 kilometers) northeast of Marrakech, or about a 2.5-hour drive. Although it’s possible to take a bus to nearby towns such as Azilal, there are no public transport options for reaching the falls themselves, so you have to drive yourself, join a tour, or take a taxi.

When to Get There

It’s possible to visit the Ouzoud Falls year-round. The busiest time to visit is in the summer months of July and August. Visiting in winter offers better views thanks to increased water levels, but it’s too cold to swim.

Olive Oil Production at Ouzoud

The Ouzoud Waterfalls take their name from the olive groves that blanket the surrounding valley (“Ouzoud” is Berber for “olive”), which are among the oldest in the world. Along the river at the top of the falls are a number of historic water mills, many of which are still used to extract olive oil from the surrounding crops. Visits and olive oil tastings are possible at some of the local olive oil cooperatives.
