Akyaka is a small seaside fishing village about 20 miles from the city of Marmaris, Turkey. It is located on the edge of the Bozburun Peninsula along the Aegean Sea. Akyaka is bordered by forested mountains on one side, and the beach and Gokova Bay on the other side. The Azmak River runs through the middle of town. The town has a relaxed, laid back vibe and is much less developed than nearby Marmaris. It's a very traditional town where you'll see farmers at work in their fields and fishermen bringing in their daily catch.

Akyaka has a wide sandy beach along Gokova Bay. The water is shallow, which is perfect for a relaxing swim. There are pedalos and kayaks for rent at the far end of the beach. Near the beach you'll find several bars and restaurants where you can try fresh seafood and other traditional Turkish meals. Another popular activity is taking a river boat trip along the Azmak River through the village. You'll have the chance to see frogs, dragonflies, turtles, and a wide variety of birds. There are also several restaurants along the banks of the river.

Cleopatra Island Boat Trip from Marmaris

Cleopatra Island Boat Trip from Marmaris

star-5

This full-day excursion to Cleopatra Island offers departures from hotels in both Marmaris and Icmeler. On the way to the island you’ll stop for swimming breaks in Incekum Bay and near Fenerli Island. Enjoy the warm turquoise waters and stunning views of Gokova Bay. A delicious BBQ lunch will be served back on board, and includes chicken or meat balls, spaghetti, salad, and seasonal fruits. With 3 hours or more of free time on Cleopatra Island, you’ll be able relax on the white sand beach, take a leisurely walk through the olive groves, and explore the ruins of the Roman amphitheater and fortifications. The island’s sands are legendary and are believed to have been imported by Mark Anthony as a gift to his lover Cleopatra. This unique sand cannot be found anywhere else in the world: the grains are so tiny and shiny that the beach on Cleopatra Island was declared a National Conservation Area. It is not permitted to take any sand with you when leaving the island.

During Marmaris Akyaka tour will visit ancient tombs dating back to the Hellenistic period, stop at “the lovers road” and go on a short river boat trip and will have free time in Akyaka. On the way to Akyaka our first stop will be “lovers road” to take some great photos of this beautiful road. Eucalyptus trees grow on both sides of the road which makes the scenery romantic. Another interesting spot on the way for a short picture break will be the rock-cut tomb dated to the Hellenistic times. Your guide will give all the necessary information about the ancient remains. The most popular activity during this tour is a boat trip on the Azmak River. Cold water flows from the mountains into this river. You can easily see salmon trout and other fish swimming next to your boat because of the crystal clear water. Your guide knows everything about the wild life in this area and is happy to tell you all about it. We will stop at a panoramic spot to take some stunning photos of Marmaris on the way
