Genova Caves (Cuevas de Genova) Tours

Genova Caves (Cuevas de Genova)
Descend 36 meters underground for a guided subterranean exploration at the Genova Caves (Cuevas de Genova). The caves, which are hidden under a restaurant, offer beautiful rock formations as well as pools of water, corridors, and columns and are enhanced with a variety of colorful lights in an audiovisual show.

The Basics

Discovered by accident in 1906, the Genova Caves (sometimes known as the Caves or Coves of Genova) have since become one of the most popular day trip destinations from Palma de Mallorca. They are only accessible via small-group guided tours which take approximately 30 minutes and run throughout the day. Admire the caves’ thousands of icicle-like stalactites and stalagmites, or book a convenient combination ticket that includes a Mallorcan tapas lunch at the restaurant above.

Things to Know Before You Go
  • The Genova Caves are a great day trip from Palma.
  • The temperature in the caves is cool but humid year-round.
  • Visitors with claustrophobia may struggle in the Genova Caves as there’s no natural light.
  • Flash photography isn’t allowed inside the caves.
  • There’s an onsite restaurant specialising in Mallorcan cuisine.
  • The Genova Caves are not accessible for strollers or wheelchairs.

How to Get There

Situated just 5 miles (8km) outside of Palma, the Genova Caves can be reached on bus number 46, which departs from the Plaça d’Espanya, Palma. To drive, follow the signposts from the city center. There’s free onsite parking.

When to Get There
The Genova Caves are open every day except Monday. Most days the caves open in the late morning and close by mid-afternoon, but on Fridays and Saturdays they are also open at night. The onsite restaurant serves lunch and dinner.

Day Trips from Palma de Mallorca
There are lots of great options for visitors who want to explore the area around Palma de Mallorca. Enophiles can venture out to the local vineyards to try the island’s excellent wines, including callet, manto negro, prensal blanc, and girò blanc. You can also double-down on caves with a stop at the Cuevas del Drach, or explore villages like Sóller, Valldemossa, or Deià.
