The Basics

The Caves of Drach are one of the most popular attractions on the island, and many visitors see them as part of a small-group tour or private day trip from Mallorca that includes transportation. Individually purchased entrance tickets include a specific time of visit. All tickets include a live classical music concert and a short boat ride on Lake Martel, which is about 558 feet (170 meters) long. When booking with a tour, it’s possible to combine your visit to the caves with a tour of the Majorica Pearl Factory in the nearby city of Manacor and explore the fishing village of Porto Cristo.

Visit to the caves and a Pearl factory
I wished the tour had a visit to a real Pearl factory not just a shop But otherwise the tour was well planned

Full Day Tour to Caves of Drach and Hams with Porto Cristo and Pearl Factory
We’ll organized tour, beautiful caves. No boat trip due to Covid-19. Strongly recommended Caves of Hams even if is shortening the beach time at Porto Cristo.

Mallorca Day Trip to Majorica Pearl Shop and Caves of Drach
Since the beginning of the trip, the tour guide was lovely. He surprised everyone by talking in 6 languages and the biggest surprise was when we found realised we come from the same country. He made the trip enjoyable and full of interesting information. Many thanks to Florin for making me feel like a VIP.

Mallorca Day Trip to Majorica Pearl Shop and Caves of Drach
This trip consisted on a visit to Sineu market, a visit to the Majorica Pearl Shop and the caves of Drach. The market stop really appealed to us as we like a bargain and there was enough time to get around a good few stalls looking for a bargain, trinket or present. There is a lot of stalls for those of you who like the cut and thrust of the barter. As with most stalls it was leather goods, clothing and a lot of imported tat. However there were also stalls with local crafts (pottery, olive wood products and a few antique stalls). The second part of the trip was to the Majorica Pearl Shop - this promised much but turned out to be not much more than a toilet stop. The top floor has live demos of pearl making and a vast display of the history of pearls (far to much to read about is the 30 minutes we had to stop - the lower floor was a factory shop but once again we were so short of time we really couldn't spend the amount of time to look at everything - on top of that - Jean felt the designs were too traditional (dated). Suffice to say by the time we had queued for the loo and had a quick look around it was time to move on. The Caves of Drach or Dragon Caves were the highlight of the trip and definitely worth the visit without spoiling it for people the sights of large caverns with their huge range of stalactites and mites beautifully lit with well designed paths and rails - guides to help at every turn and the lake concert at the end makes this a must. On balance a good day - around 6 hours from pick up to drop off so not too arduous for those of a less able disposition.

How to Get There

The easiest way to visit the Caves of Drach is as part of a package tour, half-day or full-day trip. To visit on your own from Porto Cristo, take a local bus, which stops outside the caves. Due to the caves’ popularity, purchase a tour or tickets ahead of time, as tickets can sell out.

When to Get There

During high season (June to September) and on weekends, plan to visit mid-morning or late afternoon, when the caves are typically less crowded.

Things to Do on the East Coast

There are several options for things to do while on the east coast of Mallorca. In addition to visiting the caves, check out the area’s sandy beaches, scuba diving sites off Porto Cristo, glass-bottom boat tours along the coast, and nearby villages such as Cala Millor, Porto Colom, Cala Bona, and Sa Coma.
