Cycling - Via Verde de la Sierra - 36km - Easy Level

Cycling - Via Verde de la Sierra - 36km - Easy Level

star-5
6
This is a very popular ride along the wide, unsurfaced track of a disused railway line. We do the downhill version of this route, making it an easy ride, suitable for families and leisure cyclists. The route meanders through valleys, olive groves, forests and along flowing rivers. You will pass through 30 tunnels (the longest is nearly 1km in length) and over 4 viaducts. Ride past a vulture colony, high up on the cliffs, and pop into the visitor centre to watch the “vulture-cam”. This route is self-guided; we drive you to the start point at the old station building in Olvera (approx 45 minutes from Ronda) and the minibus meets you in Puerto Serrano to bring you back to Ronda.

e-Bike - Ronda Sights - 28km - Easy Level

e-Bike - Ronda Sights - 28km - Easy Level

star-5
2
On this easy, circular e-bike tour, you will ride past Ronda's most famous sights and also cycle out of the town, on quiet lanes and tracks, to experience a taste of rural Andalucian life. Ronda enjoys wonderful countryside right on its doorstep, so from the centre of town, you are soon amongst olive groves and vineyards, arable fields and ancient holm oak forest. You will pass an old Roman aqueduct and enjoy fabulous views down to the old walled town. You will ride over the Roman (or Arab) bridge, with views up to the Puente Viejo "Old Bridge" and through one of the oldest districts of the town, the barrio San Francisco. Then you head down into the valley below the town for Ronda's most iconic view - the Puente Nuevo "New Bridge". This stunning, 18th century, two-tiered, arched bridge rises to span the 120m gorge which divides Ronda town in two. You finish by riding back through the old town, across the Puente Nuevo and past the bullring.

e-Bike - Grazalema, Zahara and Ronda - Challenging Level

e-Bike - Grazalema, Zahara and Ronda - Challenging Level

This spectacular e-bike ride has it all: dramatic mountain climbs to the high peak of Las Palomas Pass, a 14km mountain descent, a beautiful blue lake, charming white villages and iconic views of the Puente Nuevo bridge. We drive from Ronda out to the village of Grazalema. Its unique location, in the nook of a range of craggy limestone mountains, is a spectacular startpoint to our riding. From here, we ride straight up to Las Palomas Pass (1357m) the views in both directions are incredible. Then we enjoy a 14km descent around the mountain, giving incredible views of the lake and Zahara below. At the end of the lake we climb into the hills for another great descent, with great views of Ronda in the distance. We use some small unsurfaced roads to climb back towards the town view the full drama of Ronda's clifftop position directly in front of us. We ride directly below the cliffs Ronda, looking up at the Puente Nuevo bridge high above us and enter the town from the south.

eMTB - Montejaque Village Circular - 36km - Moderate Level

eMTB - Montejaque Village Circular - 36km - Moderate Level

This route makes a circuit to the west of Ronda, passing through rural countryside and through two small, sleepy white villages. It is an off-road version of our Leisure e-bike ride: Cueva del Gato & Montejaque, which means less road and more tracks and paths. From Ronda we head down into the valley directly below the town, for great views up to the main Puente Nuevo bridge. We climb out of the valley and then drop down again to the Guadiaro river, where we make a short stop at the Cueva del Gato, “Cat Cave”. This is a local beauty spot, with a small waterfall and beautiful pool of crystal clear (but very cold!) water. We climb steadily up into the mountains, through the village of Benaojan and on to Montejaque, where we usually make a quick coffee stop on the village square We continue down through farmland into the valley of La Indiana before using trails which head up through pine-forested hills to climb back to Ronda.

MTB - Ronda to Cueva del Gato - 25km - Easy Level

MTB - Ronda to Cueva del Gato - 25km - Easy Level

A short, easy ride, suitable for families and leisure riders. We ride directly out from Ronda, via a mix of tracks and quiet roads to a popular beauty spot known as the Cueva del Gato or "Cat Cave". This ride takes you through the local countryside, passing small farms, olive groves, vineyards and fields of sunflowers. The Cat Cave is named for the shape of the cave mouth in the mountain. A waterfall at the cave entrance flows all year round, however dry the weather, as the mountain contains a network of water-filled tunnels and caverns. Each day, thousands of litres of crystal clear (and very cold) water exit the cave via the waterfall to create a stunning, blue water pool. There is time for optional refreshments near the cave before we return to Ronda in our minibus.

Cycling - Ronda to Olvera (road) - 43km - Moderate Level

Cycling - Ronda to Olvera (road) - 43km - Moderate Level

Cycle from Ronda via small white villages to the hilltop town of Olvera; this cycling route uses mainly quiet roads throughout. We pass through the small village of Arriate and on to the unusual village of Setenil de las Bodegas. Setenil sits in the narrow gorge eroded by the Rio Trejo river and is famous for its cave-houses, built into the limestone rock walls of the river valley hundreds of years ago. Many of the cave-houses are still used today (with a few modifications) as shops, houses and bars. We generally stop for a quick coffee here before riding up out of the river valley, past dramatic limestone cliffs and on through farmland to the small village of Torre Alhaquime. A final climb takes us through the hills to finish at Olvera. This imposing hilltop town boasts a large Arab fortress and huge, twin-towered Renaissance church, visible for miles around. There is time for optional refreshments here before we return to Ronda in our minibus.

MTB - Grazalema Grand Tour - 38km - Moderate or Challenging Level

MTB - Grazalema Grand Tour - 38km - Moderate or Challenging Level

This route is an extension of our Grazalema Natural Park circular ride, providing more singletrack. The Natural Park is a great area for cross-country biking, with dramatic, unspoilt and remote plains surrounded by towering mountain peaks. The first half of the ride explores the heart of the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park, a protected region of rocky mountain crags, karst valleys and cork oak forest. A climb up into the first section of cork oak forest offers a good chance of spotting some free-ranging Iberian pigs, then its back down into the valley. After this we head off up into more cork oak forests on a technical section of single track. This leads us in to the Hundidero valley and on to the white village of Montejaque, where we take a quick refreshment stop. We exit the village via the "zigzag path", a short, steep climb up over the mountain and on to a flat plateau, from where we have great views back towards Ronda. We finish with a fun descent down into the Guadiaro valley.

e-Bike - Genal Valley and Jimera Circular - 52km - Moderate Level

This is an extended, circular version of our regular cycling day trip Genal Valley Views, taking advantage of the e-bikes to make the return trip to Ronda, which includes a lot of hill climbing. The route begins with a steady climb from Ronda up to a mountain ridge and then undulates along the ridge-top road which weaves through the mountains. We ride past the village of Atajate, the smallest white village in Malaga province, with only around 140 inhabitants. Then we take a turn off the main ridge and enjoy a twisting descent down the side of the hill, along 5km of narrow, twisting mountain road, to the bottom of the Guadiaro river valley. We generally take a short refreshment stop here and then head straight back up the other side of the valley. We follow the hillside, with wonderful views along the Guadiaro river. We ride through the small white village of Benaojan and then begin the long gradual climb back up to Ronda.

eMTB - Genal Valley XC - 34km - Moderate Level

This route explores the heart of the Genal Valley, a mountainous region of remote villages and chestnut plantations as far as the eye can see. The trees provide an ever-changing landscape through the year, from bare branches in the winter, to lush green foliage through the summer and then the rich russets of autumn. It is a stunning region to explore by bike. We drive from Ronda to the strat point and head straight into the mountains with a descent into the blue village of Juzcar. MTB - Banks of the Rio Guadiaro - 33km - Moderate to Challenging

This route explores twisting singletrack through pine forests on the outskirts of Ronda and then heads out into open countryside and along the Guadiaro River. We finish with a terrific 7km section of twisting, undulating, technical single track which follows the river valley to the doorstep of a favourite local bar. We catch a breathtaking view of the Tajo de Ronda gorge before heading out to the river, for a quick stop at the Cueva del Gato or "Cat Cave". This large opening in the rockface marks the end of a network of water-filled tunnels and caverns through the mountain. Back then, they used these “Rutas de los Bandoleros“ to evade the attentions of the authorities but the trails serve us better these days as superb cross-country mountain biking and hiking routes. This ride begins with a climb from Ronda up high into the hills above the village of Arriate. We will pass many well known bodegas which produce some fine local wines and enjoy fantastic panoramas over the valley of the Serrania de Ronda. The Natural Parks of Sierra de Grazalema and Sierra de las Nieves are also visible on the horizon. We then drop down into the river valley to visit the picturesque village of Setenil de las Bodegas, with its unusual cave houses, where we normally take a short refreshment break before returning up through open countryside and farmland to Ronda. Note: This route includes long ascents.

eMTB - Ronda to el Chorro XC - 46km - Moderate Level

eMTB - Ronda to el Chorro XC - 46km - Moderate Level

This is a fantastic cross-country ride through isolated hillside landscapes to Andalucia’s "lake district" and finally to the famous El Chorro gorge. It is a tougher version of our regular mtb day trip to El Chorro, including more off-road hill-climbing and descent. We use a mixture of tracks and single track, cycling through pine forest and out into open countryside, with mountain ranges all around. We enjoy some technical riding on narrow forest trails, before a long descent to the town of Ardales. We leave the town via the less travelled route, heading on tracks high up into forested hills. We finish near the dramatic gorge of El Chorro, a narrow river channel which cuts between two 150m tall limestone cliffs, with views of the recently restored Caminito del Rey walkway. Note: Moderately technical sections during this ride so you will need some basic mtb skills, although some technical sections are optional.

eMTB - El Burgo XC Grande - 54km - Technically Challenging Level

eMTB - El Burgo XC Grande - 54km - Technically Challenging Level

This route is an extension of our El Burgo XC Challenge ride, double the distance, double the ascent and a challenging steep descent to negotiate. It is a superb ride for experienced mtb-ers with good technical skills and excellent fitness who enjoy natural, technical singletrack. We drive from Ronda to the white village of El Burgo, located on the edge of the Sierra de las Nieves Natural Park and surrouded by vast expanses of mountains and pine-forested hillsides. From the village we head north on a tough "warm-up" climb through the mountains on varied trails. Topping out at just over 1000m, we enjoy fantastic views before taking a steep and challenging descent back to the village. Then its up into the hills to the south of the village to explore the rocky ups and downs which characterise this area. We criss-cross the forests, using a mix of forest trails and sections of singletrack, with technical challenges throughout. Finishing on one of our favourite single track sections.

e-Bike - Acinipo and Setenil Circular - 47km - Moderate

e-Bike - Acinipo and Setenil Circular - 47km - Moderate

This ride takes us in an undulating loop via two of the oldest sites in the area. The route includes a couple of significant climbs (no problem with the e-bikes) as we ride through rural farmland and past woodland, hillside vineyards and acres of olive groves. We drop down into the valley of La Indiana and then make a 12km steady ascent. At the top, are the Roman ruins of Acinipo, a town built on a high escarpment more than 2,000 years ago to house retired roman soldiers. A few yards behind the rear seats of an ampitheatre is the edge of the escarpment, with amazing views across to the Grazalema mountains. We then enjoy a great descent into a valley and the white village of Setenil de la Bodegas. This was also a Roman settlement but is likely to have been inhabited for many centuries beforehand. To this day, “cavehouse” dwellings built into the rock form the basis of many houses, shops and cafes. We enjoy a short refreshment stop in one of these cafes before heading back up the hill.

MTB - Grazalema Natural Park - 24km - Moderate Level

MTB - Grazalema Natural Park - 24km - Moderate Level

This route explores the heart of the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park, a protected region of rocky mountain crags, karst valleys and cork oak forests. You will enjoy some of the best cross country biking in the area, taking in the mountain sierras which make up the park. As you ride for miles through dramatic and unspoilt landscape, you will soon feel as though you have left the world behind and are on a great MTB adventure. We drive out to the startpoint, between the white villages of Grazalema and Villaluenga, then head out on the bikes into a valley surrounded by forests and towering mountain peaks. We ride along small trails and up through cork oak forest before descending to the great expanse of the valley below, with views of limestone rock formations on the edges of the Sierra de Libar. We will pass the entrance of the Sima da Cabito (a 200m deep, natural shaft into the mountain) and then pick our way back towards the start point, using isolated goat paths and farmers’ trails.

Cycling - Africa Mirador Circular - Challenging Level

Cycling - Africa Mirador Circular - Challenging Level

This challenging ride takes us on a circular loop through the river valley and mountain ridges of the Guadiaro Valley. Lots of climbing and fantastic descents. Starting outside Ronda in the riverside hamlet of Jimera estacion, we ride steadily uphill to the top of a mountain ridge, with views of the Genal Valley on one side and the Guadiaro valley on the other. We follow the ridge on a series of steady climbs, passing four white villages, and then climb further to the Africa Mirador viewpoint. The "mirador" sits on a major bird migration route from the southern continents up into Europe and delivers on its promise of fabulous views across to Africa and Gibraltar. Then we turn off the ridge and head back down into the Guadiaro valley on a fast 10km descent which seems to go on forever. We climb again up to the village of Cortes de la Frontera and then finish with a nice easy descent back down to Jimera estacion. Time for optional refreshments before we return to Ronda by minibus.

Cycling - Las Palomas Pass (White Villages) - 41km - Challenging Level

Cycling - Las Palomas Pass (White Villages) - 41km - Challenging Level

Enjoy spectacular views, a challenging climb to the top of Las Palomas Pass (1357m) and a thrilling mountain descent to finish. You will cycle through the heart of the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park and ride via the white villages of Montejaque, Grazalema and Zahara de la Sierra. This tour follows the same route as our Zahara Lakeside day tour as far as Grazalema village, cycling along small country roads which twist and turn through the mountains. But it is the climb up to Las Palomas and the descent down into Zahara which will stay in your mind for many years to come. From Grazalema we climb around 7km; if we are lucky, we may see mountain ibex hopping between the rocks on either side of the road or vultures soaring overhead. From the top of Las Palomas Pass the views in both directions are incredible. Then we enjoy a 14km switchback descent, with incredible views of the mountains and the lake below. Time for optional refreshments in Zahara before we return to Ronda by minibus.
