Malaga Alcazaba Tours

star-5
1 Review
Malaga Alcazaba
One of Málaga’s most popular attractions, the Alcazaba is an atmospheric Moorish palace and fortress with ornamental gardens. Take in panoramic views of the city as you marvel at the ingenious design tricks the Moors used to protect their stronghold.

The Basics
One of the most important Moorish monuments still standing in Spain, the nearly-1,000-year-old Alcazaba stretches along a hilltop above Málaga. Join a guided walking tour to learn more about the history and architecture of the palace and nearby sights such as the Roman Theater. Málaga is close to several other cities with a Moorish past (Granada, Seville, and Córdoba), and it’s easy to visit them all on the same vacation.

Things to Know Before You Go
  • With its many steps and steep paths, the Alcazaba isn’t suitable for travelers with limited mobility.
  • There are restrooms and a café on-site.

How to Get There

Located on a hill at the edge of Málaga’s historic district, the Alcazaba is reachable on foot from the city center. Or, go as part of a guided city tour that includes transport. Public buses also serve the entire city.

When to Get There

The Alcazaba is open year-round except on major public holidays. Admission is free on Sunday afternoons, and weekends and the summer months are the busiest times to visit. Málaga’s Mediterranean climate is pleasant at any time of the year.

The Castillo de Gibralfaro

Perched high above the Alcazaba is another Moorish attraction, the Castillo de Gibralfaro, built on the site of a former Phoenecian stronghold. Stroll along the castle ramparts for a bird’s-eye view of the surrounding area—and imagine what it must have been like to stand guard there, looking out for approaching enemy ships.

Go local for a day in Plaza de la Merced

Go local for a day in Plaza de la Merced

star-5
This adventure has 2 of the most important ingredients to make your walk around Malaga an UNFORGETTABLE visit: the experience of local 'malagueñas'; and also officially qualified tour guides. The idea is not to talk about a huge amount of historical facts, nor to treat you as just another tourist. The purpose is to experience and feel the city as a REAL LOCAL, a real "malagueño". The duration of this activity is 2,5h. which starts with a nice coffee/tea at one of the most iconic squares of the city: Plaza de la Merced. Then, the walk will get started around the historical area in order to discover the most well-known places (as well as surprising, unknown ones) of the centre, while talking about history, curiosities, traditions... and some stories as well :) Where do locals go, what are our customs, where do we go and what do we eat? Besides this, there will be some delicious local products for tasting during the visit. DO YOU FANCY ENJOYING A TOUR WITH A DIFFERENCE? Let's go!

From Malaga Port: Private tour to Malaga (cruise passengers)

From Malaga Port: Private tour to Malaga (cruise passengers)

star-5
Loaded with history and brimming with a youthful vigour that proudly acknowledges its multi-layered past, the city that gave the world Picasso has transformed itself in spectacular fashion, with half a dozen new art galleries, a radically rethought port area and a nascent art district called Soho. Not that Málaga was ever lacking in energy: the Spanish-to-the-core bar scene could put bags under the eyes of an insomniac madrileño, while the food culture encompasses both Michelin stars and tastefully tatty fish shacks. Travel at your own pace with this option in which a local taxi will pick you up from wherever suits you best and discover the city during 2 hours. A very private, flexible and yet affordable way of discovering this amazing city
