The Basics

The dam is a popular day trip destination from Las Vegas. Visitors can tour the power plant, learn how the dam generates and distributes electricity, and see stunning views of the surrounding riverways, canyons, and valleys. Tour options cover a wide range of interests—visit on a comedy bus, cruise in a Hummer, or even pair the trip with a stop at an outdoor shooting range. For an epic adventure, take in the sites on a helicopter tour or opt for a mountain biking excursion along the waterway. It’s also possible to visit on a combo tour along with the Grand Canyon’s West Rim, or combine a visit to Hoover Dam with a boat cruise on Lake Mead.

Ultimate Hoover Dam Tour from Las Vegas With Lunch
He had a great experience going to the Hoover dam. The bus was comfortable and the tour guide was knowledgeable and entertaining. I only wish We could have toured inside the dam, but it was not open due to covid. However, I did hear that it was going to open up for tours July 2021.

Small-Group 3 Hour Hoover Dam Mini Tour With Strip Pickup
We booked a last minute tour the same day to go see the Hoover Dam. It was a great tour considering the dam was still closed due to COVID. Our driver and tour guide Bob was fantastic! Very informative, courteous and just an all-around good guy. Even my teenagers were impressed!

Red Rock Canyon, 7 Magic Mountains, Boulder City and Hoover Dam Tour
I booked this tour for 3 kids (12, 10, 8), my mother-in-law and me. The kids loved scrambling around the boulders in Red Rock, taking pictures at 7 Magic Mountains and (despite the scorching heat) appreciated the magnitude of the Hoover Dam. Our guides were extremely helpful in coordination and during the tour. They took pictures, shared information and helped us stay hydrated and cool with the very comfortable van. Great experience and would tour with them again!

Grand Canyon West Rim Bus Tour & Hoover Dam Photo Stop with optional Skywalk
The Hoover Dam was awesome! Wish we could have gotten a bit closer. The Grand Canyon is just an awesome wonder and you can get all the photos your heart desires. In the age of Covid-19 the advertised BBQ lunch was non-existent so be looking for your choice of a wrap or salad with some chips and a drink. Tour guide Ralph and driver Leon were awesome and got us there and back safely.

Small-Group 3 Hour Hoover Dam Mini Tour With Strip Pickup
Our Tour was very perfect for our group and very nice outing. It included several stops at places along the way to the dam which made the tour interesting . Our tour guide and driver was very knowledgeable on the landmarks visited which were meaningful to the story on the building of the Hoover dam. Overall it was a great tour without taking a full day. Many thanks to the owner for setting up our tour to accommodate my group’s safety concerns during the pandemic.

When to Get There

Because of the stifling desert heat in summer, spring and fall are the best times to visit the Hoover Dam. Expect long lines and heavy traffic on summer weekends; opt for an early morning visit to avoid crowds.

Inside Hoover Dam

A Hoover Dam tour features much more than just a 726-foot (221-meter) wall. Explore tunnels that were bored directly into the mountainside, hear the harrowing tales of workers who carved them out by hand, and tour the power plant. The Hoover Dam Visitors Center offers even more info about America’s most famous dam.
