Bay of Kotor

Kotor, Kotor Municipality, Montenegro

The Basics

Montenegro’s Bay of Kotor, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a common day-trip outing from Dubrovnik in Croatia. Organized tours from the Croatian resort town typically include round-trip road transport, boat rides out on the bay, and free time in the historic towns of Kotor, Buda, Purist, and Risen. For a more active day out, consider a hiking, biking, or stand-up paddle boarding tour of the bay.

Kotor Bay Day Trip from Dubrovnik with Boat Ride to Lady of the Rock
Promptly picked up at our hotel. The tour guide was very polite and knowledgeable. Crossing the boarder into Montenegro took about 30 minutes and the rest of the tour run on time. Took the boat ride from Perast to our Lady of the Rock. Then another boat ride to Kotor.. Overall very happy with the experience and would recommend it if you want a quick one day trip to Montenegro.

Easy day tour to Kotor. Gabriel was a fantastic guide and the tour was well-organized and gave a good amount of time at each stop. If you're thinking of a day trip from Dubrovnik, I highly recommend this tour- great small-group tour that makes it easy to see the highlights and have a little bit of time for exploring without ever getting bored or confused.

Semi-Submarine: Kotor Bay Panorama & Underwater Experience
Children will love this small submarine. Just my husband and my self were on this as was beginning of the day . The people were so pleasant , the driver gave us a full commentary as we went around the beautiful bay of Kotor. We did not see much as we went below as water a little murky . Good value for money and a very gentle trip.

Maria our tour guide was very informative. We felt safe the entire day. So glad we did this tour, Montenegro was absolutely amazing and the boat ride to the Church on the rock was fantastic. It was a great day and experience of Montenegro well worth the price . Would advise anyone to book this.

How to Get There

The town of Kotor is about 59 miles (95 kilometers) from Dubrovnik. If driving, factor in extra time for the border crossing. Kotor-bound buses depart from Dubrovnik’s main bus station. Without a car or the dedicated transport provided as part of an organized tour, traveling around the bay can be time-consuming, with only limited bus services available.

When to Get There

During the busy summer months, delays at the border are not uncommon. Depart early in the day to avoid long lines. Kotor can be crowded on days when multiple cruise ships dock at port, so check the cruise ship schedule in advance and plan your trip accordingly.

Highlights of the Bay

Climb to the top of the fortifications of Kotor’s medieval Old Town for views of the bay. Purist is known for its Venetian palazzos and architecture, while the seaside Erceg Novi offers a pretty waterfront promenade and a picturesque old town. Our Lady of the Rocks is a church-topped artificial island and Svelte Stefan is a former medieval fishing village turned luxury hotel connected to the mainland by a small strip of land.
