The Basics

While Aquatica Water Park caters to families, there are plenty of attractions here to lure guests without kids in tow. The 40-foot-high (12-meter-high) Black Hole is particularly enticing for the adventurous, with multiple twists and turns, while the Cyclone sends riders spinning down a 40-foot-long (12-meter-long) tunnel. There's also a pendulum slide, a rain dance feature, and a multilane mat-racing slide for competitive types. A small, on-site resort hotel is available for those who want to make a weekend of it.

How to Get There

The water park is located in the New Town suburb on the eastern outskirts of Kolkata, about a half-hour drive from the Victoria Memorial in the heart of town or 20 minutes by car from the upscale suburb of Salt Lake. The public transportation options in the area are poor, though there are plans to open a metro station at Rabindra Tirtha, a 7-minute drive from the park, by 2021.

When to Get There

Aquatica is open daily from midmorning until evening and is at its busiest on weekends, particularly Sundays during the hottest months of the year (roughly April through June). You may want to avoid coming here if you happen to be in Kolkata during the winter months, as it can get quite cold.

Kolkata for Kids

While many of Kolkata's attractions are geared toward adults, the Bengali capital does offer plenty for younger visitors, too, beyond Aquatica. The Maidan, in front of the Victoria Memorial, is a great place to start, with sprawling grassy areas for running around, while those looking for something more educational can visit Science City. For outdoor adventure, Sundarbans National Park is day-tripping distance away.
