Port Arthur Historic Site, Arthur Highway, Hobart, 7182

The Basics

Journey back in time on a tour of Port Arthur and explore the vast ruins of the penal settlement, including the Penitentiary, Separate Prison, Dockyard, Port Arthur gardens, Coal Mines Historic Site, Cascades Female Factory, and Gothic church. Prebook a 2-day pass or take a private or small-group tour that leaves from Hobart, often combined with other regional highlights, such as a scenic cruise around Tasman Peninsula, a cliff-top walk to Waterfall Bay, or a Hobart city tour. Two-day entrance tickets to Port Arthur include a guided walking tour, a harbour cruise, and access to all sites, except the Isle of the Dead and Point Puer, for which guided tours are extra.

Port Aurthur Review
We had a wonderful time on the Port Aurthur Tour. We had the chance to see so many amazing sights and learn the history of convict living in Tasmania. Jim was a great driver, educator and jokester! I would definitely recommend this tour to others.

Port Arthur Tour from Hobart
Port Arthur Historic Site was not only interesting but the scenery was stunning. Well worth the visit. Our bus driver and tour guide Jim was fantastic - very knowledgeable. Entertaining (but cheesy!) jokes. Punctual but we never felt rushed.

Port Arthur and Lavender Farm Active Day Tour
The guide was very informative. Port Arthur was fascinating and lots to see. I enjoyed the relaxing feel at the lavender farm. We went to Richmond a historic town. The bus was full and not very comfortable and many hours spent in it hence the four stars.

Port Arthur Tour from Hobart
Sights seeing along the way. The tour guide at Port Arthur was too brief and didn’t take us to each site to talk through features as other guides I noticed. Colin the drive and guide throughout the drive was helpful and provided good information.

Historic Port Arthur Day Trip from Hobart Including Cliff-Top Walk to Waterfall Bay
This was a very informative tour. David was full of interesting information on recent and historic events in Tasmania. He was quite funny too. We went for a lovely bush walk on a smooth gravel track and saw wonderful rugged cliff views. It was good to have a bit if convict information before we got to Port Arthur too. It was a full day and we thoroughly enjoyed it

Port Arthur Tours

The stories of Port Arthur are told in different ways. Interactive displays tell the tragic story of the 12,500 convicts who served time from 1830 to 1877, while after-dark ghost tours explore the site’s haunted buildings. Optional guided tours visit the Isle of the Dead, the final resting place for many of the convicts, and the Point Puer boys’ prison, an experimental prison that housed around 3,000 young boys between 1834 and 1849.
