How to Spend 3 Days in Heraklion
With three days in Heraklion (aka Iraklio), you can discover the area’s 4,000 years of history, savor the local cuisine, wander landscapes like the Samaria Gorge—and even visit another island.
Visitors who want to relax and unwind can chill out as they float along the rolling lazy river; intrepid adventurers can test the laws of gravity on the thrilling Trampolino, four giant slides, and even a bungee jumping platform. Wading pools, water mushrooms, and mini slides mean globetrotters traveling with the younger set will have plenty of kid-friendly options, too. The park also offers daily age-specific kids’ activities, an afternoon foam party, and direct access to the beach.
The Treaty Stone is situated opposite King John’s Castle in the heart of Limerick. Walking to the Treaty Stone from the castle via Thomond Bridge will take about 5 minutes. Buses (302 and 303) depart from Henry Street and stop beside the stone.
The water park closes in winter, and in the summer months, it can be very crowded on weekends and holidays. Enjoy the slides before the lines get too long and claim the best spot on the beach or poolside by arriving early.
For more kid-focused fun on Crete, visit the island’s excellent aquariums. At the Aquaworld Aquarium & Reptile Rescue Centre, you can get up close to the island’s native species and handle snakes, tortoises, and lizards. At Cretaquarium, the largest aquarium in Greece, you can see 250 species of fish and marine life from the Mediterranean Sea, including sand tiger sharks and rays.
