The Basics

The Alhambra is broken up into sections: the Generalife Gardens (a collection of courtyards, pools, and fountains); the Alcazaba (the remainders of a Moorish fortress); and the Nasrid Palace (the main palace complex). If visiting on your own, choose from four official ticket types that include access to various areas at different times. Or, opt for a guided tour or private tour to remove some guesswork and gain insights from a local tour guide. No matter how you visit, book early, as the number of daily visitors is limited and tours and tickets sell out fast.

Great tour!
A must see location. Nono. our guide, was excellent. If possible, be sure to also go to San Nicholas to get a view of the Alhambra at night (8-10pm is best). Take a taxi there (difficult up hill walk) and walk back to town. No guide is needed for this - it’s simply to get a view of the Alhambra and is a must-do experience.

Don't visit Granada without going there

Alhambra Complete: Ticket Skip-the-Line Nasrid Palace and Generalife with Guide
Very Clean place, looking really genuine. Not to many people (space enough for everyone) and staff very professional, respectful and educated. Explanations are clear, massage was excellent. The Hanmam wasn't warm enough, I believe, due to repeated entries and exits of people.

Great tour - shame about the lack of Covid controls

Alhambra and Generalife Small Group Guided Tour with Skip the Line Tickets
The tour guide was very good and knowledgeable but, unfortunately the Covid measures at the facility were insufficient - people all crowding together in close quarters with no attempt at any kind of crowd control or social distancing. My health was worth more than this, so I left early.

Skip the line: Alhambra & Nasrid Palaces with Granada Self-Guided Tour
But make sure to bring your id. They are checking it on the entrance and it must correspond to the one you used at the time of booking. The monument is one of the most important in the whole of Spain and the place is full of history. It is a mix of European and Arabic culture and architecture. If you are into history, you will love it.

Alhambra and Generalife Small Group Guided Tour with Skip the Line Tickets
Our guide, Antonio, was very knowledgeable and kept the tour a fast-paced, interesting tour. There was ample time for breaks. The grounds were spectacular and the view was stunning! Special thanks to Antonio, for recommending the local favorite of fried eggplant and sugar cane sauce, and pointing out a cute cafe. He is obviously proud of his heritage.

Our tour conductor, Virginia, on the Jul 20 10am tour to Alhambra, was The most informative, easy to understand and well prepared of any tour leader we have had on the many tours we have enjoyed. She is a credit to her profession.

Alhambra, Generalife & Nasrid Palaces: Tour with Fast Track
This tour was the highlight of our two week holiday in Andalusia. Our tour guide Jorge was exceptional. He was clearly so passionate about the Alhambra, Generalife and Nasrid Palaces, bringing each area’s history to life for us. He is also an amazing singer. The tour itself was the right length of time, great audio, and location easy to find.

Granada Day Trip with Alhambra Palace Skip the Line Entrance from Seville
The bus ride was long (3 hours each way) which was perfect for catching up some zzzz especially if your are jet lagged. The stops before the Alhambra was so so, but the Alhambra was impressive. Wear comfortable shoes as you will be doing a lot of walking (12,000 steps). Don't be shy to ask for short cuts if your tire and willing to skip a few picture opportunities.

Alhambra and Nasrid Palaces Ticket with Audioguide
The whole rexperience wS excellent. Iin Terms of organisation and efficiency. Alhambra is stunningly beautiful s but covers a large area so be prepared for a great deal of walking. Audio guides took a bit of getting used to but were very informative and the sections were clearly organised .

Alhambra: Small Group Tour with Local Guide & Admission
Amazing tour. We had a bit of a bobble with passports (you need i.d. to enter the Alhambra) - and the provider and and tour guide were great - waiting a few extra minutes for part of our group to get back with their passports. The tour was amazing - the facility is stunning. Our guide delivered a perfectly paced tour - with just the right amount of information and ensuring that we had enough time in each area. He was funny and engaged throughout the entire tour. Highly recommend!!!!!

Things to Know Before You Go

  • The Alhambra is incredibly popular, so be prepared to wait in line, even to pick up pre-booked tickets. Choosing a tour with skip-the-line entry will help maximize your time.

  • Visitors with disabilities should visit the Entrance Pavilion for information about accessibility. Wheelchairs are available.

  • The complex has four restrooms: in the Entrance Pavilion (near the ticket office), the Pavilion of Services, the Low Gardens, and the Sultana's Court.

How to Get to the Alhambra

Some visitors walk up to the Alhambra on one of the scenic routes from the city center. These paths are on a bit of an incline, but many believe the views are worth the slight workout. Those who would rather rest their legs can take a bus or taxi, or drive up independently (note that parking spaces are limited). Most guided Alhambra tours include round-trip transport from downtown Granada or from nearby cities such as Seville and Malaga.

When to Get There

The Alhambra is open year round, with varied hours based on the season and day of the week. Much of your visit will be outside, so dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. If you're visiting during the summer months, try to go at the earliest or latest available time slots to avoid the biggest crowds.

How to Choose Between a Night Visit and Day Visit to the Alhambra

The Alhambra is beautiful at all hours, so this is a matter of preference. Day tours are most common, but on a night tour, you get the unique experience of seeing the incredible site lit up against the dark sky. Visitors should note, however, that night tickets are separated between Nasrid Palace only or gardens only and cannot be combined. If you want to see both, choose a morning tour or afternoon tour.
