Hammam Al Andalus Granada
The tranquil Hammam Al Ándalus Granada, located at the foot of the Alhambra and just past Santa Ana Church, is the place to relax after a long day of exploring the Alhambra’s gardens, palace, and fortress. The Arabian-bath setting has pools of different temperatures and a steam room for Moorish-style rejuvenation.

The Basics
Though the building only dates back to the 13th or 14th century, it is believed that this site historically held Muslim baths, given its location near the former mosque (now the Santa Ana Church) and the water cisterns discovered underground here. At the time of the Reconquista, when Granada was occupied by the Christians in the 15th century, it is likely that the use of these baths—along with many other Muslim traditions—ended.

Hammam Al Ándalus Granada is a 1998 re-creation of what a hammam in those times might have looked like. Various rooms hold cold, warm, and hot pools, and the complex has a steam room and a relaxation room where you can sip traditional Arabic mint tea. During a typical 1.5-hour visit, you’ll have the opportunity to use these different areas and enjoy a massage of up to 60 minutes. Combination tours that include the Alhambra and the hammam are available.

Things to Know Before You Go
  • At Hammam Al Ándalus Granada, basic amenities are provided, including a towel, hair dryer, locker, and toiletries such as shampoo, shower gel, and moisturizer.
  • A bathing suit is required and can be purchased on-site.
  • Booking your visit at least two to three days in advance is recommended.

How to Get There
Hammam Al Ándalus Granada is located next to Plaza Nueva and is easily accessible by public transportation as all buses stop at Gran Via, a 5-minute walk away. Taxis gather at Plaza Nueva. The nearest parking lot is located at San Agustin, in case you’re planning to drive to the hammam.

When to Get There
To avoid the crowds, book your Hammam Al Ándalus Granada session for a weekday during the morning hours, when the hammam is quietest. Expect to encounter the biggest crowds on the weekends and during peak tourist season, which is typically in the spring and fall. Because there are several pools to use, the hammam rarely feels crowded.

Hammam Etiquette
Since the rules of spas and saunas differ around the world, here’s what you need to know about the Hammam Al Ándalus Granada. A swimsuit is required, and dressing rooms and showers are separated by gender. If you have long hair, tie it up (a swimming cap is not necessary). Shoes are only permitted in the changing rooms; latex booties can be purchased on-site, if you prefer not to complete the circuit barefoot.
