Scotch Whisky Experience

354 Castlehill, Edinburgh, EH1 2NE

The Basics

A Scotch Whisky Experience tour is the perfect way to begin a day of exploring the Royal Mile or end a visit to Edinburgh Castle. Various tours are available, including the Silver Tour, a 1-hour overview of Scotch whisky and two tastings; the Gold Tour, which builds on the Silver with additional tastings and perks; a Masterclass for those with a preexisting love of the drink; and the Taste of Scotland, a showcase of the country’s cuisine with whisky pairings. Most tours begin with the Barrel Ride, an interactive journey through a replica of a whisky distillery.

The Scotch Whisky Experience Guided Whisky Tour - An Introduction to Whisky
I don’t know what I was expecting from this but it definitely exceeded my expectations. You start with a simulation ride that explains how how scotch is made. Then you meet a tour guide and he takes you through the rest of the exhibit. It is more hands on such as scratch and sniff a card that smells like the different regions. Taste the scotch and seeing there rather large collection of scotches. I would definitely recommend doing this activity while in Edinburg

The Scotch Whisky Experience Guided Whisky Tour - An Introduction to Whisky
Absolute value for money - starts with a tour, then a presentation, taken through the whiskeys in detail & then to see a collection. Our tour Jim was amazing. Great personality & engagement.

What a fun way to learn!

The Scotch Whisky Experience Guided Whisky Tour - An Introduction to Whisky
Super engaging and interesting tour! Not the typical, 'follow a guide around and stand, trying to listen'. You literally ride in a whisky barrel seat and view the multimedia show, learning of the process, then get to smell the blend aromas from different regions, go to a posh tasting room, and see an incredible collection of scotch whisky! Friendly employees, nice shop!

When to Get There

Tours run daily from the mid-morning; check online for schedules. The center is busiest on Friday and Saturday afternoons and evenings. If booking last minute, aim for a morning tour or afternoon tour earlier in the week. However, because tour numbers are capped, tours and tastings never feel overly crowded.

All Are Welcome
