The Basics

The Pelješac Peninsula is a popular day-trip destination from Dubrovnik for those wanting to experience a bit of the coastal countryside. Nature lovers will adore the endless walking trails along the coast, sun worshippers can beach hop across both sides of the peninsula, and wind surfers will find some of the best conditions in Croatia on the southwest shores.

Tours of the Pelješac Peninsula often include a visit to the fishing village of Ston to view its 14th-century walls, a stop at a family-run winery to sample local Pelješac wine, and a stroll along the sea to revel in some of the peninsula’s finest coastal scenery.

Wine Lover's Tour of Peljesac Peninsula
We liked the tour very much. It’s a perfect combination of history, culture and of course wine. The little place Ston with the saltbasins and the three winehouses were all really different but all very delicious. Our driver and tourguide was Tihan and his enthousiasm and beautiful stories made the tour even better. Also really nice that you get picked up and brought back home. We would definitely recommend this place if you are staying in Dubrovnik or places nearby!

About the tour and the guide

Private Tour: Ston and Peljesac Peninsula Day Trip with Wine Tasting
Tour guide was professional and was able to speak fluent English, his plans for those 3 wineries, oyster and salt farms with a walk to the little city walls were good. His pick of restaurant for lunch was also a highlight! The tour will be perfect if we could visit one of the vineyards there!

Tihan was great! Really knowledgeable and personable. You can tell he really enjoys wine! I enjoyed the views and the interesting things. I learned about Croatian wine. I'd go back to the peninsula to visit those wineries as well as some more in the area!

Wine Lover's Tour of Peljesac Peninsula
Thian was an amazing and informative tour guide who's interest and knowledge around Croatian winemaking showed throughout the whole tour. All three wineries he took us to showed the different types of winemaking in the country - small family owned, Napa Valley inspired, and unique small batch wines. At the start of the tour, Thian took the time to ask us about our knowledge of winemaking and was able to cater the tour around how much we knew. Also, before we went to the wineries, we visited the city of Ston and Thian gave us a brief history of the town's defense walls and salt production. The wine tastings at each winery were really interesting and allowed us to learn how each wine was produced. The staff at each of the wineries was extremely passionate about winemaking, and we never felt like we were being forced to buy any of their products. This was an incredible tour that helped us get a better understanding for the winemaking industry in the Dalmatia region. Thank you again Thian!!

Wine Lover's Tour of Peljesac Peninsula
This was an awesome afternoon. The Peljesac peninsula is beautiful and the tour is a great half day escape from Dubrovnik. It was a very chill and accommodating vibe and the 2 vineyards we stopped at had a homey feel and did a great job of describing and pouring the wine in the region. Tena was the best!

Private Tour: Ston and Peljesac Peninsula Day Trip with Wine Tasting
Our private Croatian tour guide Robert provided us with very attentive service in a very comfortable SUV. We picked the hotel pickup time in Lapad and customized our drop-off in Orebic. First, we visited the walled town of Ston for a 1.5 hour visit. Next were wine tastings at the excellent Milos winery and then unique Edivo Vina. Lunch was outstanding at seaside Vitaceae restaurant in Trstenik. One final wine tasting was at Matusko where tour buses caught up to us.

Private Tour: Ston and Peljesac Peninsula Day Trip with Wine Tasting
We had the pleasure of meeting Drazen when we arrived at the airport. We enjoyed our drive into Dubrovnik and were able to request him later in the week for the tour to Ston and the wine tasting. We had a rainy start but he made the experience fun nonetheless. He even suprised me with a birthday dessert at the restaurant at which we had lunch. We had a different driver (also awesome) for our transfer back to the airport. In the early hour of our departure, my husband forgot to return the hotel key. He walked outside of the airport to phone the hotel and who did he run into? Drazen himself, he had just dropped someone else to the airport. He told him what happened and Drazen gladly said he would help. He took the key and said he would return it to the hotel later in the day. He wouldn't take a top for his trouble either. A very friendly guy who went above and beyond at every turn. We can't say enough good things about Drazen. The tour was also fantastic and the wineries were lovely. We wished we could have seen more of Ston but with the rain it just wasn't possible.

Truly amazing, a real taste of Croatian Wine and culture.

Wine Lover's Tour of Peljesac Peninsula
Our wine tour was incredible! Bodizar was so kind and accommodating as our knowledge on wine was pretty much next to nothing. He picked us up from our accommodation and dropped us back safe and sound. It was an amazing chance to see the real Dubrovnik as we drove right up into the mountains and got the chance to see the landscape in its full glory. The wine was amazing and the company even better! We tried some amazing wines and learnt so much about the process. We even bonded over our Scandinavian music taste and passion for writing moody horror fiction! You would be crazy to go on any other wine tasting tour as this one was a truly incredible experience. Thank you for having us. (apologies this review has taken us three weeks to write! Better late than never).

When to Get There

With endless sunshine and dry weather along the coast, Croatia sees the most visitors during the peak summer months of July and August. The Pelješac Peninsula sees fewer tourists than other destinations along the Dalmatian coast, so during the peak season it’s a more peaceful experience. With even fewer tourists and pleasant weather, the shoulder months of May and September are also great times to visit.
