The Basics

The Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve offers one of the the UAE’s best opportunities for viewing native wildlife and experiencing the adventure possibilities of the inland desert. Options are plentiful, including morning dune drives, hot air balloon flights over the Arabian desert, private desert safaris, and outdoor dinners in a Bedouin-inspired camp. To visit, you must book a guided tour with round-trip transportation from an approved operator—both half-day and full-day tours are available.

Camel Desert Safari with Traditional Dinner & Heritage Activities from Dubai

Wonderful trip.
Loved our tour guide sultan. The camel ride was for a full hour. Definitely worth the money and the fantastic gentleman walking with us on the camels offered several times to take photos and video which were great. The food was plentiful, just make sure to move early when it comes time for the dinner shows to make sure you get a seat. Camels were the best part and an awesome experience

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip into the desert. Not for those who suffer from motion sickness or don't do roller coasters! Our driver Nawaz was a wonderful host and ambassador of the company

Best Dubai Desert Safari- Quad Biking & Dun Bashing & Sand Boarding with BBQ
This was the highlight of our trip. We got p/u at the hotel by MJ (nickname) he was our driver and tour guide. We arrived at the the first stop it was the quad biking. That was so much fun. Dun Bashing was great, exciting and stomach turning (don't drink too much water before do it), we stopped in the to takes some pictures. The most beautiful pics ever. Then more Dun Bashing and of to the camp. There you get to ride camels (we didn't ride the camels I felt they were being mistreated, they were tightening the straps and the camel was yelping), take pics with a falcon, and sand boarding, see a show and have a bbq dinner. There is a stand that makes sand art in vases beautiful, Mohhamed he was the man making the sand art he was very nice and outgoing. Overall it was a great experience. Would love to be able to post some of my pics.

Dubai Desert Safari with BBQ Dinner, Sand Boarding, Camel Ride & 3 Live Shows
We had an afternoon free up and we were looking for something to do. We decided to book this tour at the last minute and it was a great decision. We did sand bashing, sand boarding and topped it off with a dinner in the desert where we saw 3 different shows. The flame thrower was my favorite. Our driver, Sohiel, picked and dropped us off and killed the sand bashing. Would definitely do this again.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Guided tours from Dubai last anywhere from two to seven hours, depending on the option chosen.

  • Remember to bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat, as the reserve offers very little shade.

  • Drink plenty of water—it’s easy to get dehydrated in this arid environment.

  • Wear comfortable clothes and shoes, particularly if you’re participating in adventure activities.

When to Get There

For the best weather—temperatures around 80°F (27°C)—visit the Dubai Desert (or anywhere in the United Arab Emirates for that matter) between November and March. Occasional rain showers occur from January to March, but they rarely last for long. Those who opt for a summer visit should expect highs well over 80°F (38°C).

Flora and Fauna of the Desert Reserve

While it may not look like it at first glance, the desert is teeming with life. Among the many critters that call the dunes home are the sand cat, Gordon’s wildcat, Arabian red fox, sand fox, gazelle, Arabian hare, hedgehog, and the pygmy shrew. Even the plants are colorful and diverse, with several species of trees, flowering shrubs, herbs, and grasses. The true success story of the national park is that of the Arabian oryx, a species of antelope. Before the park was established in 2003, the Arabian oryx was close to extinction. Today, well over 100 live here.
