Walking Tour of Split with a 'Magister' of History

Walking Tour of Split with a 'Magister' of History

star-5
211
This is a walking tour of Split with a local historian! I will guide you through all of the relevant sites in the center of Split in a logical manner following the cities development through time. I have a Master's degree in history, so I can provide much more knowledge than what is learned at a tour guide course. I have years of study and passion for history behind me and I am really trying to carry that forward. Also, I am a local, born and still living in Split! I combine that with the expertise and education I gained as a teacher to make my tours a logical and pragmatic experience. I speak fluent English and I enforce dialogue as much as I can during my tours since it provides much more personal contact with the guide and it's easier and more enjoyable to learn that way. I use my own 3D reconstructions of the sites which I present on my tablet to create a wholesome picture. The tablet also has a free Wi-Fi hotspot on it for my group!

Tour starts by the scaled model of Split old town at Riva promenade, followed by visiting Diocletian's Palace and it's main parts: substructures, former imperial residence, Peristyle square with the Saint Domnio's Cathedral, and all four gates of the Palace. This is one of very few children-friendly tours. I will give you an insight to historic attractions in more simple and children-suitable way, with stories and legends connected with Split. We will look for ancient hidden wall inscriptions and Egyptian sphinxes, pass through Roman gates, make a wish by rubbing a toe of Bishop Grgur's giant statue. At the end, we will visit the oldest pastry shop in Split, tasting traditional homemade style treats. If needed, we can take a break for bathroom or drink. Two hour length of the tour is not strict, if needed it can be extended. Time and day of tour can be negotiated, depending on other tours that day

Rome vs. Venice - Zadar City Tour

Rome vs. Venice - Zadar City Tour

star-5
3
This 90-100 min Walking Tour introduces you to 2 big governments that determined the shape and appearance of Zadar today. Roman Empire and Venetian Republic. Their architecture, legacy and heritage outlived almost everything in this town. Roman heritage in Zadar will astonish you with its endurance and Venetian with firmness. We walk 90-100 min rain or shine no matter what. Dress accordingly, bring umbrella or a raincoat if needed. We don't enter any Museum or Church. But don’t think for a minute that we’ll skip other very important facts and living proofs of other Kingdoms, Unions, Monarchies and their governments. If we observe the city from the perspective of architecture, preserved monuments and the overall inherited image after the Romans, then, we must say that Venetian Republic isn’t far behind, at all. On the contrary, Venetian Republic is responsible for achieving the status of a city with UNESCO heritage from July 2017.

The Best of Hvar Walking Tour

The Best of Hvar Walking Tour

Do you know that the oldest public theatre in Europe is in Hvar in Croatia? It was established in the 13th-century arsenal building. Do you know that Spanish fortress on a hill above the old town was built at the beginning of the 16th century? It was restored many times. And now you can have a beautiful panorama view of the town of Hvar and Pakleni Islands from the fortress. History is calling from the 15th-century Franciscan monastery, Benedictine Convent, Hvar town loggia, and a clock tower. In this city, history is not just in buildings. Before you finish the tour, try to see if you can find the historic cypress tree in the gardens that have been here since the 1700s.

What people are saying about Archaeology Tours in Dalmatia

star-5
Zadar Walking Tour
"Lia (Lea) is a fantastic guide. She obviously knows the city inside out. There's so much to pack in but with a small group (free tours can get so crowded) there's more chance of building s relationship with the group and guide to get the most from the experience. The only thing I would say is advertising the tastings is a wee bit of an exaggeration. In a shop for one piece of cheese then back to.the office for a plastic shot glass of maraschino.. That's no fault of the guide, who gave a great tour."..."

Walking Tour of Split with a 'Magister' of History
"We gave Toni a 10 out of 10! Because we booked in October, crowds were gone for the season, so my wife and I got a private tour! Toni was informative, personal, and attentive. He gave the history of the city, shared some of his family’s experiences, and gave other recommendations for our stay. For us, his tour was on of our favorites."..."

Salona Klis and Trogir Full Day Tour from Split
"This was a great day in the ancient ruins of Salona, the fortress at Klis and the old city of Trogir. Our guide, Adrian, was wonderful - very knowledgeable about the history of each location and also very personable. We were in a small group of 3, and he kept the conversation going throughout the day! We were particularly impressed with Salona - that such an incredible set of ancient ruins can be so open to the public and within the "backyard" of Split is very impressive. The Klis fortress discussion was tremendously interesting and educational (and very neat for the GOT nerd inside all of us!). Trogir was just okay - we were staying in Split and the Diocletian palace was more interesting to us than Trogir. It was a great day, and we would highly recommend the tour - and ask for Adrian as your guide!!"..."

Historical Walking Tour of Split
"I’m very impressed of the tour, of the city of Split, of the constructions which Romans built and that many of them are still safe. The tour guide Ivica told very interesting about all around the center of the city and about the Palace of Diocletian particularly. I was alone in the group that day so I can say that Ivica made the individual tour for me. I’m very grateful to him for that."..."

She was patient and thoughtful, and great company. Both Split and Salona are fantastic places to visit we had a great day!"..."
