Tambomachay

Daily 7am-6pm
Cusco, Peru

The Basics

At nearly 13,000 feet (3962 meters), Tambomachay is one of the highest Inca archaeological sites in the Sacred Valley of the Inca. Multi-tiered terraces are built into the mountainside in such a way that blends organically into the landscape. A relaxing, powerful meditative place, Tambomachay sees far fewer visitors than some of the more famous ruins.

Travelers have many options for exploring Tambomachay as part of a half-day, full-day, group or private tours that leave from Cusco. Multi-day tours combinexa0 visits to Lima, Machu Picchu, and various towns and archaeological sites in the Sacred Valley of the Inca, such as Chinchero, Moray, Pisac, and Maras. Adventurers may explore the area on mountain bikes and ATVs.

Amazing sites!
We had a wonderful guide who wrote a book about Cusco and its history. We ended up buying it. You get to see a lot of places during the tour and learn so much about them! Unfortunately, my husband and I were sick and had to leave the tour early. Luckily, the bus was able to drop us off at our hotel before Qorikancha (which we sadly didn’t get to see). Even though we didn’t get to finish the tour, we highly recommend it!

Horseback Riding Plus Tour to Sacsayhuaman, Quenqo, Puka Pucara and Tambomachay
Ride horseback to ruins otherwise not accessible. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, he grew up on the land you ride on. This is a little family owned business and the care and attention to detail put big companies to shame!!! One of my favorite things I’ve done in Cusco. Will definitely take this tour again if I’m lucky enough to visit again!

TOUR GUIDE NILDO WAS GREAT

Half-Day City Tour of Cusco Including Tambomachay
The guide, Nildo, was knowledgeable and spoke English well. He was great! There were at least 6 stops on this tour (more than I expected) so it was a lot to pack in for a half day. I loved that my group was small as well (4 total). I recommend purchasing the full tour pass that covers all the historical sites if you will visit others after this tour.

Horseback Riding: Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Puca Pucara, Tambomachay
I have limited riding experience so I asked for a gentle horse. I got the sweetest horse and riding lessons. The riding tails were easy to negotiate and the vista's were amazing. We loved Gabrielle's explanations of the archeological sites and his gracious ways. We will ride with him again upon our return to Cusco!

Guide was Excellent. He was very knowledgeable. He explained Inca history at each site. The horses were good and the scenery was great. The horse riding was only about 1 hrs of the tour the rest we traveled by van to each site.

Sacsayhuaman Inca´s Temple, Tambomachay, Puca Pucara & Q`enqo Half-Day Tour
Hotel pickup was prompt, and Robinson was a wonderful tour guide. He did a great job explaining the significance and history of the sites. The only thing I would change is the visit to the alpaca wool factory. I learned how to spot Alpaca wool, but did not appreciate the hard sell tactics of the folks there. It would have been great to be able to opt out of the final part of the tour.

Horseback Riding Plus Tour to Sacsayhuaman, Quenqo, Puka Pucara and Tambomachay
We were taken to the most beautiful scenic areas on horseback. Our guide’s knowledge about the culture and history was amazing. He was easy to understand and answered all of our questions. He even gave us a great suggestion of where we could experience and see authentic food/dancing.

Thanks for the great tour. The organising was excellent, the guide, Walter, very good! He provided enough information in a reasonable time frame. Picked up on time, no need for special effort to coordinate anything from my side
