Ausangate Trail Tours and Activities

The Inca Trail might be the most popular trek in the Peruvian Andes near Cusco, but anarguably equally impressive (and certainly less crowded) trail leads visitors to Mt. Ausangate.Nevado Ausangate, the highest mountain in southern Peru, peaks at 20,945 feet (6,384 meters)above sea level. On a clear day, the snow-topped peak can be seen from Cusco.

The Ausangate Trail, named after the peak, takes five to six days, plus travel time to and from Cusco from the trail head. The trail begins in the brown grasslands of the Andean plateau and crosses four high-altitude passes, covering some of the most stunning terrain in the Cusco region. The trail, much of it at altitudes of more than 13,100 feet (4,000 meters) passes high alpine lakes, glacial valleys and small villages where alpacas graze freely and residents still dress in their traditional attire.

Ausangate Sibinacocha Trek 6 Days

Ausangate Sibinacocha Trek 6 Days

This very special alternative trek takes you alongside the spectacular snow-capped “Apu” of Ausangate (6.372m/20900ft) and takes you over mountain passes, through awesome mountain scenery, authentic Andean villages, hot springs and turquoise lakes. This alternative route to the classical circuit around Mount Ausangate still offers the most spectacular views of this sacred Andean mountain before it deviates towards the impressive Sibinacocha Lagoon, leaving tourist crowds behind and entering an almost uninhabited area where you can truly commune with nature. The hike ends in Phinaya, a small and remote Andean community with just horses and bicycles as transportation.. An unforgettable trail for lovers of mountain trekking, or those searching for something different and away from the increasingly popular traditional Ausangate trek. Rainbow Mountain Day Tour from Cusco

Rainbow Mountain Day Tour from Cusco

This peculiar geographical accident - or work of art of nature - belongs to the snowy Ausangate, in the Vilcanota mountain range. Although its particular beauty is directly proportional to the height in which it is located (the highest point reaches 5,200 m s.n.m.), thousands of people around the world dream of visiting it and arrive to Cusco to make their wish come true. Apu was the name by which the wise Inca civilization called the mountains to which he attributed mystical powers. Although most of these majestic mountains were covered with snow, there was one that stood out for its color: the Vinicunca Mountain, also known as “the mountain of the 7 colors”. The Incas gave Vinicunca a masculine character, considering that the masculine energy that fertilized Mother Earth, known as Pachamama, emerged from its foundations. As if that were not enough, the natural framework that surrounds it is no less impressive: turquoise lagoons, a varied fauna and dazzling snowfalls.

Ausangate is the towering, 6372m peak which dominates the skyline to the southeast of Cusco. It is the protector spirit mountain of the city and ranks highest in the pantheon of Apus, the living Mountain Gods worshipped by the people of the Peruvian Andes. As you trek around its snowy slopes, you will climb high mountain passes and visit remote Andean villages. The turquoise lakes and hot springs of this land are a generous gift from Pachamama, the Mother Earth. Ausangate Sibinacocha Trek (6 days 5 nights)

Ausangate Sibinacocha Trek (6 days 5 nights)

star-5

This off-beaten route is perfect for those seeking a break from the tourist crowd and have a close contact with nature. The trekking route runs through the snow-capped peak of Ausangate Mountain (6372 meters / 20,900 feet). Ausangate Mountain has a great significance among Cusqeñans. To us, this is a sacred peak and we call it “Apu”. Although, this peak can be seen pretty much from most parts of Cusco, only a handful enjoy the view from close. Ausangate Sibinacocha Trek will take you the closest to the peak. The area around Ausangate is dotted with alluring views of turquoise lakes, hot springs and traditional Andean villages. On this trip, you will be visiting the unspoiled lake, Lake Sibinacocha. This lake is a highlight of the wondrous trek. It is a fairly challenging route and trekkers should be acclimatised well before the trek. We usually suspend this trek from December to February due to adverse weather conditions.
