Preveli Palm Beach

40 chlm nótia apó to Réthymno, Greece

The Basics

Preveli Palm Beach not only entices visitors with warm waters, it also offers a unique feature: a freshwater lagoon that flows from the Kourtaliotis River and sweeps across the back of the beach. Swim and relax on the sandy beach, or explore the river by paddleboat or canoe, spotting waterfalls and caves along the way.

Hiking is also a popular activity at Preveli Palm Beach. Trek through the shade of the palm trees leads to the hilltop Preveli Monastery—the most important monastery in the region—and see panoramic views of the coastline. You can also take a 4-wheel-drive tour of the region to see Preveli Palm Beach and the area’s dramatic gorges and quaint villages.

Preveli Palm Beach from Chania and Rethymno
Very good organized. The tour was operated by Kyriakakis Travel but I received upfront the information as well as an emergency number which I really liked about booking via Fantasy Travel. The tour itself had a stop after Preveli in a small village for an hour before going back. I think this stop isn’t really necessary as it’s only 1 Hour and you cannot do a lot. Being on a beach for 1 hour is less and there is nothing to do in the village. But Preveli Beach itself was nice and the boat ride. Would recommend the trip.

Preveli Beach and Plakias Full-Day Trip From Rethymno
We absolutely loved this day trip which took us to a gorge and then three beaches. The best part of the trip is travelling to Preveli beach which you access via a (very choppy) 30 min boat trip. It was absolutely stunning! The sea, which then leads to a river flanked by a palm tree forest - so peaceful and beautiful. The tour company is Klados Panagiotis, who we'd happened to have taken a local trip with two days before, and they're fab - especially the very informative tour guide Barbara.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Make sure to bring food and drinks with you; there are limited facilities at the beach.

  • Nearby parking lots charge for entry during the summer, but you can park for free in the low season.
