"El Trapiche" in Monteverde

Sugar cane, Chocolate and coffee Tour The first trapiche (sugarmill) came to Monteverde in 1948 when Mr. Higinio Santamaría (grandfather of the present owner), moved from San Ramon of Alajuela to Monteverde. The journey was done with oxen carts, to thearea we know now as Santa Elena and lasted about 15 days, then it was installed and started working regularly. Approximately 13 years after the arrival of the family to Monteverde, Mr. Juan Santamaría Campos (father of the present owner) creates a partnership buying a diesel-powered mill. The idea of turning it in to an agro-tourism farm, was created with the aim of showing to visitors a representative part of Costa Rican culture where they can appreciate the process of sugar by the old way making brown sugar (tapa de dulce) and processing of fresh coffee cultivation in educational and cultural tour, which began on 2005.

Manuel Antonio National Park + Campesinos Ecoproject Route

Manuel Antonio National Park + Campesinos Ecoproject Route

star-5
Manuel Antonio is one of the privileged sites of Costa Rica for wildlife sighting, its accessibility and white sand beaches make many travelers visit this area of the Central Pacific, for this reason it is very important to visit the National Park with a guide. Certificate that not only teaches you but also knows the ecosystem in detail and you will find it there. It is important to emphasize the role of the guide in this part because you have to know what you are looking for and although some things are obvious, there are many details that we are going unnoticed without him. At the end of the first part of the activity we will visit the project of the Peasants in the mountains, perfect to combine with the morning walk.

star-5
We offer more than just chocolate, Firstly, the chocolate tour begins with the cultural and biological background of cacao in Costa Rica. It further introduces into the collecting, fermenting, grinding and finally the making of chocolate, the drink of the gods. Secondly, we talk about coffee and its importance for Costa Rica's economic and cultural development. We have a showroom with important coffee picking instruments and a better explanation of the process of coffee production. We want to show you how to make Café-Chorreado, the real Costa Rican practice of preparing coffee. Amongst other sampling methods. Finally, we want to look at one of the most important aspects of Costarican culture and tradition, the trapiche: A sugar cane mill run through two beautiful oxen (Fast & Furious). Here we grind sugar cane to extract the juice and make all kinds of local and delicious candy. This is for sure the sweetest tour in the area.
