Carretera Federal, Cancun - Chetumal Km 230, 307, Tulum, Riviera Maya & the Yucatan

The Basics

Just a short trip from the Hotel Zone of Cancun and next to the Caribbean Sea, the spectacular Tulum ruins are an ideal spot to explore some of the Yucatan's Mayan history. Perched on a rugged coastline, the ruins are modest but well-preserved and boast stunning views of the seaside area. Stroll through the ruins on a self-guided tour, or sign up for one of the many available Tulum tours guided by an archaeologist. Consider booking an early-access tour to avoid having to compete for space with large tour groups.

3-in-1 Discovery Combo Tour: Tulum Ruins, Reef Snorkeling Plus Cenote and Caves
Amazing excursion! 3 great things to do all in one day. Tulum was amazing to see. Snorkeling in the ocean was great as well. The cenote was completely different and worth it! All I can say is that it is life changing. So cool! Our tour guide Christina was so knowledgeable and safety conscious. Would actually do this again!

A Nice Day Out

Day Trip To Tulum and Coba Ruins Including Cenote Swim and Lunch from Cancun
Timely pickup, super nice guide and driver. Unfortunately, Tulum had a Covid outbreak so was closed. Coba and the cenotes were very nice, the included lunch was great, and Playa del Carmen was better than I expected. Overall, the day out was very worthwhile and I'm glad I did it. Solid choice for a tour.

Coba Ruins, Cho Ha Cenote, Tulum and Paradise Beach Day Trip with Lunch Included
Ulysses was great, he is super passionate and informative. Tulum ruins were shut down since a worker there got covid but he messaged us before hand and we went to a different set of ruins. Everything was great, thank you. I will note another group on the trip complained among themselves that they were staying in Cancun and didn't realize the long travel time to Tulum. This has nothing to do with the tour company/ guide. How stupid can they be, look up at a map before booking something.

Day Trip To Tulum and Coba Ruins Including Cenote Swim and Lunch from Cancun
Even though Tulum was closed due to a positive Covid response of an employee, our tour guide Oscar made our trip amazing! He was very funny and informative of each place we went.

The cenote was amazing. Transportation was professional and safe. Joel and Arturo our tour guide was very informative. They took their time giving you the history of Tulum and made you feel comfortable. Safety was always a priority with them.

Private Tour: 2 Mayan cities in one day, Tulum and Coba
I can not even begin to express to you how special Mario made our experience to Tulum- Coba and a wonderful Cenote. We traveled with our elderly mother (who had a walker), and having Mario to guide us was like having another family member. He cheerfully tweeked the whole day to accommodate us while providing a true Historian's dialog of not only the local Mayan lore- but any and all topics of interest. Seriously - do not hesitate to request this chivalrous maestro.

Discovery Mayan World | Tulum + Cobá + Buffette
Great driver and guide! Many insights regarding Mayans in Tulum and Coba and their astronomical, religious, and commercial practices. Refreshing dip in the Cenote and exploration of the underground river. Brief stop to see Mayan food preparation and shaman. Long day but rewarding.

Tulum Ruins Private Tour with Turtle and Cenote Snorkeling
JJ and Pasquale were excellent! JJ was so knowledgeable, and we learned a tremendous amount about the Tulum ruins, Mayan history, and the cenotes. JJ got us in as the first entrants to the ruins, which allowed us to take pics without there being anyone else around! And lunch was fantastic. Would absolutely do this tour again.

Tulum, Coba and Cenote Tour from Riviera Maya
Our visit to Tulum, Coba and cenote was great. The swim in the cenote was so refreshing after a hot day visiting beautiful Tulum and impressive Coba. Lunch was a buffet with plenty of options. Drinks were not included. Our day was 13 hours long, way over what was advertised on Viator's site. This was not an issue for us, but just be aware in case you have dinner plans. Panama, our driver, and guides Rhett and Alfredo were awesome!

Day Trip To Tulum and Coba Ruins Including Cenote Swim and Lunch from Cancun
Had an amazing day. All the sights were incredible and our guide Ricardo and our driver Pablo were lovely. Lots of knowledge whilst walking around the sights. The tour is very well organised and you feel safe (especially with Covid). I’m trying to pick my favourite spot but it’s very hard! I think Coba ruins here first place but only just. Tulum and Cenote were also amazing. Loved our final visit to 5th Avenue! Would definitely recommend this tour.

How to Get to the Tulum Ruins

When to Get There

As with most popular attractions in subtropical Mexico, the earlier you arrive, the better—walking through the Mayan ruins is a lot more pleasant without the midday sun beating directly down on your head. April through October is considered low season, while you'll see fewer crowds and a little bit of rain in September and October. The rest of the year, the tourist industry is in full swing with heavy crowds, so consider an early-access tour.

Things to Do in Tulum Besides Visiting the Ruins

The ruins are set against a backdrop of some of Mexico's best beaches, such as Akumal, that are ideal for diving and snorkeling. Whale sharks frequent the area from June to September, so if you visit during that time, be sure to book a tour that combines a trip to the ruins with a snorkel expedition to get your own whale shark experience. Tulum also has popular freshwater cenotes and passageways to an underground river.

Boca Paila Beach is a pristine area yet to be invaded by big-name resorts. Local craft markets sell souvenirs, and you can watch the Mayan pole flyers on a walk around town. Tulum Beach Road takes travelers to the Sian Ka'an Biosphere and Punta Allen for swimming in the clear waters, while further along is Tulum Pueblo with its quaint local shops and restaurants.
