The Basics

Besides pharaoh Djoser, another 16 kings built their tombs at Saqqara, and the area was used for burial until well into Roman times. Other important monuments on the UNESCO-listed site include the Pyramid of Unas, the Pyramid of Sekhemkhet, the Mastaba of Ti, and the underground Persian Tombs. Guided day trips from Cairo typically stop at Saqqara along with the Giza pyramids and the Great Sphinx of Giza.

Incredible day and guide!
Incredible day at the Pyramids, Memphis and Saqqara. The guide Abdoul (Spanish and Portuguese speaker) was really nice with us and we learned a lot with him. Driver Ahmed was also great. A must-see in Cairo with a lot to learn.

Full-Day Tour Giza Pyramids, Sphinx, Memphis, and Saqqara
Excellent way to see all the pyramids, safely. My tour guide and driver were both excellent. They took me to all the best spots and took the best photos of me, all the while keeping me safe and secure from annoying vendors. This tour is a value and I recommend it. Don’t dare try to see the pyramids or anywhere in Cairo on your own. Get a tour guide, it is not safe on your own. This tour was perfect.

My tour guide was Rasha, she was amazing and taught me so much about ancient Egypt and Egyptian culture. Rasha is a great tour guide and I recommend Rasha to any other travelers. She made the experience amazing as a foreigner.

Full day tour to Giza Pyramids& Sphinx, Sakkara and Memphis
I liked best Ziena’s thorough knowledge of every site we went to. She provided wonderful context to what we were looking at. I couldn’t have askedfor a better guide. She’s the best kind of professional: the kind who does what they do because they love it. Her enthusiasm made this a memorable experience.

Half Day Tour To Memphis Sakkara And Dahshur Pyramids
I had a great time on this tour! My guide, Noha, was excellent. She was extremely knowledgeable and adjusted the itinerary based on my interests. The tour operates exactly as described online, from the hotel pickup to the sightseeing. Dahshur, Saqqara and Memphis add a lot to get a more complete picture of ancient Egypt. Thank you again Noha!

Why Were the Kings Buried in Pyramids?

As part of their belief in the afterlife, the ancient Egyptians thought that part of a king’s spirit remained with his body. So in addition to mummification, the king’s corpse and possessions were preserved in a pyramid or tomb. Throughout King Djoser’s reign, builders assembled his pyramid’s six layers of stone, as well as the surrounding complex.
