The Basics

As one of the most easily accessible islands in the Great Barrier Reef, Green Island is a popular choice for day-trippers from nearby Cairns. The Green Island resort offers everything you need to explore the island’s underwater wonders, whether you fly in by seaplane or sail out across the reef. As well as swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, and seawalker helmet tours, there are island reef cruises, glass-bottom boat tours, and semi-submarine excursions, the latter of which offer the chance to peek under the ocean without having to dive in.

Green Island Day Trip from Cairns
We loved the whole day at Green Island! The boat trip was great and the snorkelling was awesome, we saw a turtle on our second snorkel from the beach. If you're keen to see more while snorkeling, you MUST do the guided snorkel safari tour, it was fantastic!

Green Island & Great Barrier Reef Sailing Cruise from Cairns - only 25 guests
Great crew, really attentive. Various snacks are served during the trip and we had a real feast for lunch on board. Beautiful views and a good spot near Green Island to do snorkeling through corals and fish. The sailing boat experience on the ocean is amazing!

Worth the trip but basic snorkelling

Green Island Day Trip from Cairns
Crew were efficient, friendly and welcoming. I have snorkeled a lot and the snorkelling on green Island wasn’t the best but I went at low tide. Definitely recommend high tide so your not too close to the bottom. However, Worth the trip, the boat ride is fun!

Big Cat staff were really friendly and helpful. The glass bottom boat and submarine is a fantastic experience. The boat ride over is comfortable and the buffet lunch was delicious.

Fly to Green Island - Cruise Return
The trip to Green Island was a perfect day. The helicopter ride over was breathtaking with beautiful views. The staff were professional, courteous and helpful. The time on Green Island was relaxing and enjoyable. Many activities were available, including a tour over the reef in a glass bottom boat, snorkeling, walks, and beach time. It was nice to have so much time to ourselves. The packed picnic lunch that was provided was excellent - with too much food. The boat ride back provided a good end to a perfect day.

Great Cruising experience but what up with that buffel lunch?

Green Island Day Trip from Cairns
I absolutely loved my trip to Green Island with Big Cat Green Island Cruises. I found this company very helpful and professional in dealing with their guests. However, I suggest you take sandwiches for lunch, as I found the buffet lunch inedible. With every other detail of the cruise so well managed, I believe if this were upgraded even to freshly cut and prepacked sandwiches, it would be a five star rating from me.

A must go when in Cairns

Green Island & Great Barrier Reef Sailing Cruise from Cairns - only 25 guests
Great crew on the yacht, hospitable and knowledgeable about the best spot to snorkel...we were able to see a chunk of beautiful corals and large fish. After which we land on the Green Island. Amazing island but stores were close when we got there. I could have given a 5 star if it not for a stormy weather.
