La Chorrera Waterfall

Bogota

The basics

Despite being less than an hour from the capital, La Chorrera is still one of the region’s least-visited sights, making it a top choice if you’re looking to get off the beaten track. The falls offer the ideal backdrop for adventurous activities such as horseback riding and abseiling. Most day trips to the waterfall include a visit to the smaller El Chiflon Waterfall as well, followed by a guided hike through the cloud forest to La Chorrera.

Waterfall La Chorrera de Choachí Hike Tour + Optional Lunch
The tour that we were looking to do was not available because of road closures (major bicycle race). Francisco went above and beyond to help us find another activity and was an amazing guide. He was very knowledgeable of the area and taught us a lot about Bogota. We felt very safe for the entire trip and would recommend to anyone who wants to get out of the city for a day.

Hike to the highest Colombian waterfall! (La Chorrera and Chiflon)
If you only have time for one day your this is definitely the one to do. The scenery is out of the world. The hike is hard and some is almost straight uphill, but I am old and I did it so if you are in relatively good condition the hike is no problem. The waterfalls are beautiful. Our guide Nick was awesome and I never felt rushed on the hike. The breakfast and lunch were very good.

La Chorrera waterfall is a MUST see in Colombia. It was absolutely beautiful. The hike to get to it was a little rough but well worth it. Luis was an amazing guide and is very knowledgeable about Colombia and enjoyable to hike with. Guillermo was a great driver and got us there and back safely. Highly Recommend!

Hike La Chorrera and El Chiflon mighty waterfalls from Bogota
We really had a great time hiking to La Chorrera and we are glad that we booked our tour. Our guide Andreas was really cool and easy going, he was knowledgeable and and provided many useful info. The trail itself is quite demanding and it can be very hard at certain points due to slippery rocks and tree roots, steep ascents and descents. I would not recommend to anyone who has walking problems or any other health issues. The nature and landscape is amazing. There are so many points for great pictures. The waterfall was unique and we were lucky there was enough water coming down. Sometimes when it does not rain for sometime, you can see only few drops and it will be disappointing. It is always important to check before the departure what conditions to expect. Overall it was an amazing experience and we really enjoyed it.

Luis was an awesome tour guide! Very knowledgeable guide and super kind. The hike is gorgeous and well worth it. We did the hike in tennis shoes and although it was do able, hiking boots are recommended because it is very muddy.

Hike La Chorrera and El Chiflon mighty waterfalls from Bogota
Amazing experience. The waterfalls are magical and worth the hike. It is very muddy and hard to ascend at times. Make sure to have hiking boots and active clothes. This is more difficult than I thought initially, but worth every penny and time spent. Our guide was amazing and even played music while we meditated at a beautiful picturesque spot. Give Felipe a raise!! He was amazing!

Things to know before you go

  • Remember to wear sturdy shoes suitable for walking over uneven surfaces.
  • Admission is free but it’s a good idea to make the hike with a guide who’s familiar with the rainforest, for both safety reasons and to increase your chance of spotting wildlife.
  • The road to the trail head is winding so prepare if you’re prone to motion sickness.
