Kreuzberg Tours and Activities

star-4.5
9 Reviews
Kreuzberg
Kreuzberg is the trendiest district in Berlin and makes up the western side of the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg area. The neighborhood is comprised of many art galleries and museums, the infamous Checkpoint Charlie, and endless bars and restaurants that host the district’s diverse population of students, artists, and a large Turkish community.

The Basics
Kreuzberg is undeniably Berlin’s center of urban trends and art. Tours of the neighborhood (kiez) generally discuss the history of Berlin with a focus on the Cold War and fall of the Berlin Wall. Tasting tours enable you to sample the international cuisine that is prevalent in the area. For a more personalized experience, book a private excursion to dive deep into the history and culture of Kreuzberg and Berlin.

Since Berlin is all about counterculture, a variety of alternative walking tours are available to discover the area’s urban murals and art pieces. Discover Berlin’s thriving LGBTQ community on a walking tour through Kreuzberg and parts of Schoneberg. Or discover Berlin’s drinking and dancing side on a pub crawl.

Things to Know Before You Go
  • Kreuzberg is a must-visit for urban art lovers and foodies.
  • The streets of Berlin are mostly cobblestoned so wear comfortable shoes to walk on the uneven surfaces.
  • Kreuzberg is home to many parks, which are ideal for taking breaks between attractions.
  • The Bergmannkiez and Görlitzer areas of Kreuzberg are best for a bite to eat and a night out on the town.

How to Get There
The U1 underground line is the ideal way to get to many of Kreuzberg’s main attractions, restaurants, and bars. From Checkpoint Charlie, it is a quick ride on the U6 to bustling Mehringdamm, home to the famous Mustafa’s Gemeuse Kebab (Gemüse Kebap) and Curry 36.

When to Get There
Kreuzberg hosts many street parties throughout the year, including International Workers’ Day on May 1 and the Carnival of Cultures in June. Tuesdays and Thursdays also see the sprawling Turkish Market along the Spree on Maybachufer, and an indoor street food market every Thursday at Markthalle Neun. In general the best time to visit Berlin is during the warmer, drier months of May through September.

Visit Kreuzberg Like a Local
If you have been to Berlin before and want to see a new side of the city, or simply want to live like a local for a few days, Kreuzberg is the ideal place to stay. Its central location is great for reaching landmarks such as Checkpoint Charlie and the German Museum of Technology, as well as attractions outside the neighborhood such as the Brandenburg Gate and Museum Island. The variety of restaurants, bars, and clubs also makes it a top choice for a true experience of Berlin culture.
