After pick up at the hotel in Coimbra, we will go to Figueira da Foz. We will visit Praia da Claridade, one of the favorite beaches of the Portuguese. After taking a walk on its white sand and taking a few pictures, we will go to the salt pans. We will enter the Núcleo Museológico do Sal to know everything about salt and see first hand how it is produced. Before returning to Coimbra, we will cross the fields of Baixo Mondego, where you will be surprised by the extensive corn and rice plantations. Following these roads, we will arrive at the Castle of Montemor for a short visit. Located in a strategic place on a hill, its walls have witnessed numerous struggles between Muslims and Christians. Before finishing, we will indulge your stomach with the tasting of the typical Tentúgal pastry, one of the 7 wonders of Portuguese gastronomy. This sweet, strictly linked to the life of the convents, perfectly combines ingredients as classic as sugar, cinnamon, eggs and puff pastry.

Pick-up of participants in Coimbra at 2 pm where we start the journey by car to Nazaré. We started the visit at Praia do Norte at Fort São Miguel Arcanjo right next to the biggest wave in the world. Then we pass to the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Nazaré, in front of Nazaré beach, and we descend to the fishing village by the traditional elevator, wandering the labyrinths of the narrow streets, in a tangle of small houses. World Heritage classified sites in Portugal: Tomar, Batalha and Alcobaça! Also known as the “Templar City”, in Tomar we will unveil the charms of the “Mata dos Sete Montes”, the Castle and Convent of Christ (listed by UNESCO as World Heritage since 1983)! There will also be time for a quick stop so that you can enjoy a tasty meal at one of the many restaurants located in the typical commerce streets on the banks of Nabão River. In Batalha we will visit the Monastery of Santa Maria da Vitória (also known as Mosteiro da Batalha, classified by UNESCO as World Heritage since 1983)! Then we will be visiting Alcobaça and its beautiful Monastery, one of the most imponent testimonies of Circestience architecture in all of Europe (classified by UNESCO since 1989).

Located at the center of Portugal, just 40 minutes away from Coimbra, is the city of Aveiro. This place contains an unique atmosphere given by its typical boats (Moliceiros), which are often compared to the Venetian Gondolas, as well as its 20th Century architecture, in the style of Art Noveau, connected by cobbled passages that extend along the water channel coming from the Lagoon. This is the place where you will be given free time for lunch (we have some good suggestions for you even if you are vegan!) and shopping (consciously!). After lunch we'll depart to visit the Lagoon of Aveiro with it's Salt Ponds... and we'll also visit the famous places of Barra and Costa Nova!

The location site of Conímbriga was populated by the romans around 139 B.C., in a region that contained previous signs of prehistoric occupation, establishing the prosperous capital of Lusitânia. During the rule of Emperor Augusto, Conímbriga grew into a more urban scale including an amphitheater, thermal baths and Roman Forum. Though the most impressive remains of that period are the domus – manor houses – and the insulae. These structures are so well preserved that you will feel like travelling back in time! We will visit the locations of the old town of Conímbriga while learning about the daily livings during that period and understand the strategic location on the territory that later would become Portugal. At the monographic museum we will admire the objects that were used by the people on their daily tasks!

Competing with Sintra as one of the most charming places in Portugal, Bussaco (or Buçaco) is a treasure located in the country's central region, only 30 minutes away from Coimbra! It's now applying to become a World Heritage Site by UNESCO! Bussaco's National Forest is a Protected Area planted by the Order of the “Carmelitas Descalços”, to whom these lands had been granted – at the beginning of the 17th Century – in order for them to build a spiritual retreat that included a convent. In 1888, the Portuguese Crown initiated the construction of a Royal Palace at the same location as the convent, which had to be partially demolished in order to make way for the newer Neo-Manuelino styled building. During this half day tour we will contemplate the beauty of this site while walking along one of the many trails of Bussaco's National Forest. After arriving at our destination, we will learn about the existing buildings and its history as well as the local flora and fauna!

Despite the vestiges of human presence dating all the way back to the prehistoric era, it is only during the Medieval Ages that populations started to settle on this territory. From a count of 27 historic villages that make part of the “Schist Villages Network”, our visit will focus mainly on two of them - Candal and Talasnal - which contain constructions dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. These are located at the Lousã Mountain, a few kilometers away from the city of Coimbra!

We have selected the points of greatest historical, geological and human interest to create an experience that always leaves your mouth watering and wants to come back. We pass through the stunning lagoons of the Arrimal, we enter the mountain to discover the "Arco da Memória", we discover the unique candidate for UNESCO heritage (the dry stone walls). The landscape is marked by abandoned windmills (reminiscent of other times, although not far away). Stops at the Ecopista and in the coal caves, a mandatory visit to the magnificent Fórnea (a unique geological formation, with an impressive view), the "Jurassic Beach" (about 30 km from the current coast line, we discover traces of sea creatures that lived in a distant past). Algares and Lapas, typical geological features of Carso, give us a different view, from the interior of the Earth to the Sky. A trip to Serras de Aire e Candeeiros Nature Park is certainly not complete without visiting the "Dinosaur Footprints".

With an approximate duration of 3H, we will discover one of the few water points on the surface in the Lagoons of Arrimal. These support a huge number of species of plants and animals that find the ideal place to grow here. We will find abandoned windmills, the wells and cisterns show the need for humanity in the collection and preservation of a high-value resource, water. Ecopista marks the use of the old train line that used to transport coal from the Bezerra mines. We will ascend to the top of the mountain by roads that take us to places with fantastic views over the coast. If we are lucky we will see the ocean and identify the Berlengas Islands. The “Arco da Memória” marks the limit of the Coutos de Alcobaça and the beginning of the lands of the King. It is the memory of the History of Portugal here celebrated in a building of “Arco triumphal” style.
