The Basics

Day trips to Mont Saint-Michel from Paris are popular ways to explore this medieval island in a limited time and without the hassle of arranging your own transportation. Plus, many tours include access to the Benedictine Abbey (Abbaye du Mont Saint-Michel) as standard. Mont Saint-Michel is also easy to reach from Caen and Bayeux, both of which offer access to wider Normandy and places such as the D-Day landing beaches of World War II and the coastal village of Honfleur.

Mont Saint-Michel Trip
This was a wonderful experience for us, and it was the greatest trip we took during our time in France. We had a great time learning about Saint-Michel and looking at its beauty. Our guide, Matt, was extremely nice, humorous, and down to earth. He was informative on a range of subjects outside of the Mont. It was a pleasure to speak with him. The tour was well structured, giving you time to fully experience Saint-Michel. We strongly recommend this tour.

Antoine was informative, very nice and a good driver! A must see. The rain couldn’t spoil the day. Not much to eat on Mont St Michele for vegans so plan ahead.

Private Day Tour of Mont Saint-Michel from Bayeux
We were lucky enough to have the same guide for two excursion days and he was THE BEST! While he drove us to our sites, we were able to converse all about architecture, history, politics, French life, etc. He was personable, funny, and great with our children. He alone was worth the tours. Mont Saint Michel itself is a magical place. It is super special and unique. You won't regret booking this tour.

We had a wonderful tour of Mont St. Michel with Kate. She was friendly, sweet and very knowledgeable not just on Mont St. Michel but the entire region. We had plenty of time to tour the monastery, have lunch and explore the small town. The van was new and very comfortable. Great day! We would highly recommend this tour.

Mont Saint-Michel Day Trip from Bayeux
Our guide was very knowledgeable. He never had to stop to look up anything and seemed to always have the answers to our questions (in fluent English). Smooth driving through the French countryside lead us to this amazing place, and before we left we had enough time to see the town and step on the mud as it was low-tide. Mont Saint Michel was beautiful, and we were able to appreciate the intricate details (as well as visit it) because of this amazing tour. Pick-up was on time - which is always a plus, and the operator confirmed the tour well before we got to France. Masks were worn and health passes were checked.

Mont Saint Michel Guided Tour with Abbey Visit from Paris
Amazing trip. It was nice that not many people were visiting and I highly suggest that you join a small group (ours was 7). The view was amazing, and the tide was low so you can really see the village standing out. Might be a good experience too if it was high tide as well, so it would look as if it was floating. But overall, it was great. My friend and I enjoyed it

Things to Know Before You Go

  • The parking lot is located on the mainland; a shuttle runs from the lot to a drop-off point close to the entrance to Mont Saint-Michel.

  • The village is full of narrow walkways and steps, so wear comfortable shoes and prepare for crowds.

  • There are no stairs from the parking lot to the entrance, but 350 steps lead from the top of the main street to the abbey.

  • Wi-Fi is available at the tourist office in the village.

When to Get There

Mont Saint-Michel’s tourist office is open every day except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, while the abbey is closed January 1, May 1, and December 25. As a small island, it’s a popular destination with limited space, so arrive early to avoid the crowds, which are biggest in summer.

Exploring the Mont Saint-Michel Abbey

After paying your entrance fee to the abbey, grab a visitor’s guide for a self-guided tour of the Gothic landmark’s cloister and rooms. Alternatively, guided 75-minute tours in French and English are available year-round; they are included in admission with no reservation required. To hear commentary without a live guide, purchase a 1-hour audio guide for a small fee.
