The Basics

A visit to the Picasso Museum is key to understanding the true artistic genius of Barcelona’s famous native son. Visitors who want more insight into the art can pay a small fee for an audio guide or join a very limited selection of small-group guided tours that are included in admission (reservations required). If you want to explore with a tour guide on your own, book a separate museum tour that includes admission. Options include a private tour, skip-the-line tickets, or a combo tour; the latter combines a guided museum tour with a Gothic Quarter walking tour that stops at sites important to Picasso's Barcelona, including the famous Els Quatre Gats café.

Terrific tour guide Anna!
Anna gave a very informative and interesting overview of Picasso & his artwork. We so appreciated her tour as we would not have had such a positive experience and understanding of Picasso’s art career touring the museum on our own.

Picasso with Hannah...

Lonely Planet Experience: Picasso, El Born & Museum Tour in Barcelona
We were fortunate to have Hannah as our tour guide. We spent about 2 hours walking around the Gothic quarter before going into the Picasso museum. Hannah gave us lots of information and brought many of the highlights of Picasso to life. Hannah also gave us information about other artist in Barcelona that were important. Hannah was extremely easy to be with and with her being an artist, we really felt like we had an even better experience!

Getting to Know Picasso

Lonely Planet Experience: Picasso, El Born & Museum Tour in Barcelona
Fiorella our guide was exceptional in how she presented the works of Picasso . We started the tour at the Four Cats and went from there to learn about Picasso and his life. We ended up at the museum with much newly learned understanding of his paintings and the different periods of his painting styles. I felt so knowledgeable walking into the museum and recognizing the various paintings after hearing Fiorella's explanations.

Barcelona Art and Tapas Small Group Walking Tour with Picasso Museum
We had an excellent tour guide. Olga was knowledgeable, friendly and out going. She introduced us to a variety of tapas and specialty regional wines, beers and even tiger milk! (Not made from real tigers ;)) We saw the market and many interesting squares and historic sites as we wondered around the back streets of Barcelona. We had some lovely gelatos from a place the Pope favors! If the Pope likes it it’s got to be good and it was. We had a great time in the Picasso museum. We love these combination tours with Viator. Thank you Olga for a wonderful day!

Highlights of the Collection

The museum collection places a strong emphasis on Picasso’s formative years, including works from his time in Málaga and A Coruña. Keep an eye out forLa Primera Communión (The First Communion), painted when the artist was just 16.Woman with Bonnet comes from his Blue Period; Glass and Tobacco Packet is a fine example of a Cubist still-life.
