Geringsing Tenganan’s Magic Cloth

Ikat is a type of cloth where the pattern is dyed into the horizontal threads before weaving. With double ikat, both horizontal and vertical threads are predyed, requiring incredible precision from the weaver. Tenganan Village is famous for its geringsing, an exceedingly rare double ikat that locals believe has magical and protective powers. The Balinese name for the village, Tenganan Pegeringsingan, means Tenganan that makes geringsing.
