The Basics

The Texas Hill Country offers a choose-your-adventure style of itinerary, depending on your interests. There are tours especially for wine lovers, taking you right into the heart of wine production in and around Fredericksburg, home of 50 wineries. If beer is more your style, spend an afternoon sampling craft brews in San Antonio. Take a day or two to explore San Antonio on a pass that includes various activities, including the Witte Museum, San Antonio Zoo, and San Antonio Museum of Art.

President Lyndon B. Johnson was born in Stonewall, a Hill Country town near Johnson City, and his sprawling estate is open for tours that provide insight into his life and presidency. Fold your tour into one that also gives you a sample of the area’s German roots, plus a stop in Luckenbach—made famous by singer Waylon Jennings.

Texas Hill Country and LBJ Ranch Tour with Wine Tasting Stop
Our guide/driver was Loretta & she made this day trip so much fun! Picked up on time at our hotel, provided drinks/snacks on the van, & was very knowledgeable on the history of each stop. We loved LBJ’s childhood home stop! You couldn’t rent a car, buy gas, & hunt for these stops on your own for less than booking here & letting them take care of all the arrangements. Lunch in Fredericksburg was amazing & stopping at Luckenbach on a Saturday & hearing the musicians & shopping ended a perfect day. Would definitely recommend!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Domingo was a great guide, very knowledgeable. We were looking forward to the wine tasting, but it did not happen. Great tour though, not quite as advertised. Plenty of time at the stops to look and see.

Texas Hill Country and LBJ Ranch Tour with Wine Tasting Stop
We loved this tour. Domingo was our guide and he was great. He was on time for pick up and we were pleasantly surprised that the tour was in a van versus a bus. We were able to meet new people! We never felt rushed at any of the stops. My favorite was Luchenbach, but all of the hill country is beautiful!! We would definitely like to do this again some time.

Exceeded expectations and relaxing after demanding convention

Texas Hill Country and LBJ Ranch Tour with Wine Tasting Stop
Specific takeaways: LBJ’s contributions to education originating from that one room schoolhouse, Jose’s ability to read the group and personalize the tour, the charm of Luchenbach, value of farmers in our nation’s history

Texas Hill Country and LBJ Ranch Tour with Wine Tasting Stop
Our tour guide/driver José Y. was excellent. His commentary was interesting, kept everyone engaged, and was accommodating to our interests. We never felt rushed at any of our stops. I particularly enjoyed the NPS Visitors’ Center at the LBJ Boyhood home displaying a timeline and history of LBJ’s life and accomplishments. Although neither the Home itself or the house at the ranch were not open inside, it’s still well worth visiting.
