Visiting Auckland for the First Time? Here's What to See and Do
Check out our top tips for making the most of this underrated city—especially for first-timers.
The Odyssey Sensory Maze is located in the basement of the Sky World Entertainment Centre, near Aotea Square, so it’s a convenient place to add to a central Auckland itinerary. Completing the maze takes around half an hour, although it could be more or less depending on how quickly visitors can make their way through. Most people visit independently, and purchasing tickets in advance can save time and ensure a turn during busy periods.
Tickets are available for a single journey through the maze or as many journeys as you can make in an hour.
Although no age groups are prohibited, the maze is not recommended for kids under the age of 8, as they might find parts of it scary.
Discounts are offered for larger groups, and it’s recommended that they book in advance.
Wear comfortable and practical clothing for navigating physical obstacles. High heels are definitely not recommended.
Personal items, including cameras, should be placed in lockers outside the maze.
The Odyssey Sensory Maze is conveniently located in central Auckland, an easy walk from downtown. Alternatively, take a bus from other parts of Auckland. Driving is also possible but not recommended, as parking in the area can be difficult and expensive.
The maze is open every day of the week from late morning until late evening. Weekends and evenings tend to be busier.
The Odyssey Sensory Maze is very close to Aotea Square, a major civic space in central Auckland. The square hosts arts and cultural festivals and free concerts during the summer and an ice-skating rink in winter, so there is likely to be something on while you’re visiting the city. Take some time to check out Aotea Square before or after visiting the maze.
