The Basics

The only way to explore the sprawling ruins of Delphi is on foot. Visiting with a tour guide offers a greater insight into the fascinating history of the archaeological site, while the nearby Delphi Archaeological Museum offers an array of exhibits.. Most visitors choose to visit on a day tour from Athens or Patras, often combined with nearby attractions such as Arachova, Saint Lucas Monastery, or Meteora.

Excellent day out
This was BBC a great tour. The coach was big, spacious, and very comfortable. We were taken to Delphi and had a coffee break mid way. We then had access to Delphi for 45 mins and then 30mins in the museum. We had a stop for lunch on a good restaurant. We didn’t get the set menu included but the restaurant had delicious options to choose from. The highlight of the trip was the guide, Demetrius, who was very knowledgable and explained in detail the history of Greece and Delphi. We were really lucky to have him!

Delphi: A Day Tour at the Navel of the World from Athens
Except for the extreme heat, this was a lovely day. The bus was clean and comfortable and we took a comfort break each way. Delphi is amazing and the small museum has some true treasures. Lunch was terrific. We ordered off menu rather than the prepaid lunch and it was a lot of food. The guides were very nice and helpful.

Delphi full day private tour from Athens
Our driver was on time in a nice clean van with AC and wifi. He was a good driver, smooth and safe. After leaving us to see the sights at Delphi, he picked us up promptly after we messaged him that we were done. He drove us to a fantastic restaurant where he had a table with a magnificent view reserved for our family. After dinner, we explored Arachova for a bit. The trip back to Athens was equally comfortable.

Delphi One Day Trip from Athens
Our guide, Evan, did a fantastic job! He was very knowledgeable and explained everything very well. Stops were well spaced out to give us a break on a very hot day. The bus was clean and comfortable. I would definitely book with this tour company again!!! In the ancient world, Delphi was the place you came to find out answers (will I win this battle, should I do this business deal, etc.). Come see the place that held this power.

Delphi Day Trip from Athens
An amazing guide who is clearly enthusiastic about her work. The site itself, Delphi, is mesmerizing with plenty of time to explore. Skip the included lunch at Hotel Amalia as they are perfectly willing to drop you off at the nearby village (which you have to pass through) for an hour to eat at a local spot. Grade A experience overall.

Delphi & Leonidas with 300 Spartans battlefield
Driver was Awesome! Took us to really good places out of the way besides Delphi. Sights are incredible. Spent 12 hours with us even after his mother died the night before and did a great job explaining places. The title does not do it justice. This was worth the money! I highly recommend this.

Private Delphi & Thermopylae Tour from Athens
Wonderful tour of Thermopylae and Delphi in a private van. Van was spacious with great A/C. Our driver/guide, Denis, drove safely and gave great commentary at each of the stops. He also recommended a taverna in Delphi that had marvelous views and excellent food. All in all, worth the money and a super tour.

Delphi Full Day Tour
The whole experience was fantastic. The driver, Panos, was excellent and flexible to what we wanted to do. He also took us to a restaurant in Delphi that has one of the best views we’ve ever seen. Absolutely recommend.

Great day with Dimitrius

Sacred Delphi & Osios Loukas in a Full Day Private Tour
We loved Dimitrius as our guide. He was a great driver, very attentive to us and friendly. Be aware this tour does not provide a guide at Delphi; you are on your own. And the drive from Athens is long. The monastery was spectacular, a real highlight.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • The ruins of Delphi are spread over a large area—plan at least half a day to take in the highlights.

  • Bring sunscreen, plenty of water, and comfortable shoes to walk around the ruins.

  • The Delphi Museum is wheelchair accessible, but due to steep and uneven ground, it is not possible to visit the ruins up close via wheelchair.

Ancient Delphi in Greek Mythology

In ancient Greece, Delphi was considered the center of the world, or the place where heaven and earth met. Legend says that Zeus released two eagles from opposite ends of the earth to find its center, and they met over Delphi. The city become a sanctuary to the god Apollo and home of the famous Oracle of Delphi, a trusted oracle from which the spirit of Apollo gave advice on everything from domestic matters to war.
