The Basics

The only way to explore the sprawling ruins of Delphi is on foot. Visiting with a tour guide offers a greater insight into the fascinating history of the archaeological site, while the nearby Delphi Archaeological Museum offers an array of exhibits.. Most visitors choose to visit on a day tour from Athens or Patras, often combined with nearby attractions such as Arachova, Saint Lucas Monastery, or Meteora.

Go to Delphi!!
Delphi is beautiful, and it is worth seeing! The tour guides are super knowledgeable, and you will learn a lot about Greek mythology, although sometimes the talking seems to go on for too long. We didn’t pay for lunch beforehand, but we ordered off the menu at the same restaurant and ended up paying half the price. The restaurant had a nice view and good food!

Sacred Delphi & Osios Loukas in a Full Day Private Tour
We loved Dimitrius as our guide. He was a great driver, very attentive to us and friendly. Be aware this tour does not provide a guide at Delphi; you are on your own. And the drive from Athens is long. The monastery was spectacular, a real highlight.
Worth the visit

Visit Delphi and live their myths!
This tour is amazing. Our guide was fabulous and knowledgeable on topics spanning from Greek philosophers to the origins of myths. The Temple of Apollo and The Temple of Artemis were our favorite stops on the tour, but we loved every other stop too!

Delphi Day Trip from Athens
Fantastic day. The guides were personable, knowledgeable, and funny. The only thing I would add is stopping at a place that has more than chips to eat for breakfast in the morning on the way to the site.
Great day tour!

Delphi One Day Trip from Athens
The trip for Delphi is quite long, but the bus was confortable and there was social distancing all the time. Our tour guide was great, with a big knowledge of all Delphi attractions and also about Athens. Delphi and Delphi museum are very beatiful and interesting. We chose the option with the lunch included and it was a good idea since that the restaurant was nice and the food was very good.

Smooth, comfortable ride to Delphi. George is a nice, handsome person, who has a lot of details to tell and he made the day perfect for us.

Private Day Trip from Athens to Delphi
Our driver was early, waiting with a nice car and the drive to Delphi was smooth and easy. He left us to explore the sights of Delphi at our own pace and was always smiling and happy to collect us when we were ready.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • The ruins of Delphi are spread over a large area—plan at least half a day to take in the highlights.

  • Bring sunscreen, plenty of water, and comfortable shoes to walk around the ruins.

  • The Delphi Museum is wheelchair accessible, but due to steep and uneven ground, it is not possible to visit the ruins up close via wheelchair.

Ancient Delphi in Greek Mythology

In ancient Greece, Delphi was considered the center of the world, or the place where heaven and earth met. Legend says that Zeus released two eagles from opposite ends of the earth to find its center, and they met over Delphi. The city become a sanctuary to the god Apollo and home of the famous Oracle of Delphi, a trusted oracle from which the spirit of Apollo gave advice on everything from domestic matters to war.
